Chapter 18: King Hotaru

“I should go in first,” Dulcinea said when they arrived at King Hotaru and Queen Sada’s estate.

Stretching hundreds of square miles across several mountain peaks, the estate was fenced off with a stone wall that was a magnificent architectural feat, similar to its sister wall in China.

Unfortunately, humans rarely ever got to see the wall around the Japanese Vampire King’s estate.

Those who did never returned to the human world to talk about it.

“No,” Emilia said grabbing Dulcinea’s shoulder and preventing her from walking forward.

Emilia had helped Tommy and Dulcinea up the treacherous path. They stood outside the massive, ebony gate. Though it was made of wood, the door was thicker than a redwood tree, making it almost impossible to knock down, even for an ancient vampire.

“Emilia, they could kill you on sight. Let me plead our case,” Dulcinea argued.

Emilia shook her head. “If they strike first, I am the one who can withstand the attack.”
