Chapter 41

I paced the room still letting the reality of our situation sink in. Carson and Iris covered Mrs. Underwood’s body with a large curtain they had pulled from a nearby window. My mother and a few other witches whom had been close to her crouched together in sorrow. Their cried pierced the air. Cries for her, and for us. It was heartbreaking to watch.

Carson gave his condolences to them and headed back to me, allowing them some time alone.

“You alright?” he asked. I nodded, completely lying. Nothing about this was alright. But I couldn’t obsess over that now.

“So, what’s the plan?” I sighed.

“We have to go out there.” Carson stated reluctantly.

“That is insane. We’ll be massacred.” Fiona interjected. I wasn’t even aware she was listening to our conversation.

“As opposed to what? Being slaughtered in here?” I snapped gazing down at Mrs. Underwood’s covered body. Fiona sunk back unable to say anything.
