Chapter 8 - Maddy's story

Let's go back to where it started shall we? Hi, I'm Maddison, my friends and family call me Maddy. I'm starting at a new school today because my dad didn't like my old one, "too many dodgy boys" he said, he wasn't wrong though, most of the boys there loved to touch girls, it was gross. Anyway, as I walked in I saw a boy in a hoody, he had his head down and looked lonely, so I decided to go over say hi and introduce myself. I managed to catch a glimpse of his face and, he was actually kinda cute. I asked for his name. "Klyde.." he said it quietly but I managed to catch it. I told him it was unique and he seemed kinda shocked, I guess no one's said that to him before. I told him I was new and trying to make friends. I couldn't stop smiling.

I asked if he could show me around, he hesitate but then gave me a nod. 'He's so quiet." I thought. Suddenly a ball flew directly at me but he jumped out and caught it, he was so fast! Was not expecting that at all. I thanked him, if he didn't do anything I would've taken a ball to the face. I noticed that he had glared at them for a quick moment. "you don't talk much do you?" I asked him, he shook his head. Then I said I bet his voice was nice and he froze, twisting a little in my direction, then twisted back and continued leading me. Then I said "you don't have friends do you" I didn't realise I sounded sad, again he shook his head. I then asked if he'd had a girlfriend, once again he shook his head. I stated that that was a long, sad, and lonely life, he nodded slightly in agreement. Then told him I could be his first friend and he could me my first at this school, of course I've had other friends, I'm famous after all. He nodded as if to agree and I couldn't help but squeel with excitement, felt kinda childish. I then realised how loud it was and apologised to Klyde for it, he just shrugged.

I stated how huge the school was then asked how they find their way here and stated that there were heaps of rooms and things, he just shrugged. I noticed that people were watching us but I wasn't sure why so I just didn't pay attention to it.I then went and talked to the office lady to get my timetable, she was nice.

I had to say Klyde's name three times before he responded. Told him I was getting worried because he was staring off into oblivion. Then I asked if he could show me to class. Which he nodded to and lead the way.

I ended up follwing him the whole day because we had all the same classes. I smiled and waved at him as I got in my car to head home. As I was driving I saw him walking so I asked my driver to pull over next to him. I winded the window down as he got to us and asked if he was walking home, he nodded. I asked him where abouts he lives and he pulled his phone out and opened maps, showing me the street. I was shocked and couldn't stop myself from yelling "Holy cow! You walk all the way there from school?!" He nodded. I then asked how long he had been doing it and he held up three fingers. I yelled "THREE YEARS?!" I then noticed that he got a bit of a fright from that so I apologised then told him that I'd never met anyone who'd walk such a distance on a daily basis, particularly for school. Then stated it was alot of effort and that he must be really fit. I guess I got lost blabbing to him when I realised he wasn't really listening anymore. I said his name twice when he looked at me, I told him he keeps zoning out and asked if he was alright, he nodded. I just accepted it and then asked if he wanted a ride, he seemed to be looking at something, he typed something up on his phone and showed it to me, he was asking if my parents and driver would be okay with it, I looked at him and laughed a little. "they won't mind at all silly, you're my friend after all." I told him. He shrugged then did a sort of, yeah I could use a ride type gesture then he got in and we were off.

I asked if this is where he lived as we pulled up on the drive way. His response was once again a nod. I then stated that it wasn't bad but could use some tidying up. He nodded in agreement which was, kinda surprising honestly. I then asked if his room was visible from the front, again a nod, so I asked where abouts it was. He pointed to the attic window. He lives in an attic, so cool. Then I stated that I wished I could live in an attic then laughed. I asked if it was a good view and, yet again he nodded. Then I stated that I live on the third floor. Then I said I'd see him tomorrow and we pulled away, I think I saw some people looking through the window.

I continued to hang around Klyde, he didn't do much but he was good company. Friday came and we had an assembly, it was really boring, I even stated that it was boring to Klyde, then asked if every Friday was like this, to which he nodded to. After the assembly the day went by as it would any other day. That afternoon I asked my mum to help me get Klyde's number because I forgot to ask him while at school, sure enough she was able to find it online. So once I had it I sent him a message, we talked a little, I told him how I got his number and asked if he had plans for the weekend, he said he didn't but that he was used to it. Then I said I'd see if he could come over some time. He said I didn't have to so I said I wanted to, then we said goodnight and went to bed.

My dad the next morning was not very pleasant... He had a go at me for little things like my room not being organised enough or the one hair out of place on my head, even the single wrinkle on my shirt. He took my phone and whipped me with the belt a few times, then I spent the rest of the weekend crying and trying to make things 'perfect' for my dad.

Monday came and I saw Klyde walk into school, I walked up to him and forced a smile. He put a hand on my shoulder and showed me his phone with the other, it said "are you alright?" On the screen. I told him I was fine and thanked him for his concern. That wasn't what I wanted to say, but if word got out that my dad was hurting me he'd kill me.

I felt a little better after spending a day with Klyde. That afternoon we started messaging, I told him I was sorry about today and blamed it on not enough sleep, he didn't seem to convinced but he didn't push. Then I asked what he was up to, found out he paints. I asked to see his art he was hesitant at first but showed me a piece, it was incredible, obviously I asked to see more of them, and he complied, I told him he has a gift for art. He also said he bakes which I think is amazing. Then I stated that he seems to be more open when messaging, I said that I liked it and he sent an embarrassed emote, I replied with a laughing one, then we said our goodnights and were off to bed. I lay there thinking to myself, wondering what Klyde thought of me, and what he was doing now. Slowly I drifted of to sleep.

I arrived at school just as Klyde was walking in, I climbed out and smiled at him, he nodded and waved, it was kinda cute. I enthusiastically greeted him and asked how his night was, he said it was alright then asked how mine was, he actually talked, I was surprised. I told him mine was ok, but kinda lonely my parents had left earlier that morning for a business thing, mum would be home before school finishes though, dad wasn't going to be out till eight o'clock. His response was "dang."

People were staring at us and whispering to eachother, I asked Klyde why. He leaned to my ear and whispered to me that they were surprised because he'd never spoken to anyone before, ever. I asked if it was because I had gotten him to talk or because he was talking to me, he said both. I was embarrassed a little. Then Klyde said we should head to class so we went off.

Lunch came and I remembered something, I asked Klyde if he wanted to come over this afternoon because my mum that night had said it was okay. He accepted hesitantly.

After school we climbed into my car and headed off to my place. Klyde seemed fascinated by the passing scenery. When we got there my mum introduced herself, embarrassed me, then I introduced the servants and bodyguards and showed him around the house, I showed him my room, which wasn't quite ready for guests. After the 'grand tour', we went to the living room and put a movie on. Mum came in and offered snacks and drinks, we accepted and sat enjoying snacks and movie.

After that we dropped Klyde back home and got back, I went up to my room and went to bed, I couldn't stop thinking about him.

The next few days went by as usual.

But then sunday night came... My dad came home and he was in a really bad mood. He yelled at me about boys and not being tidy enough and needing to be presentable. Monday came and Klyde and I arrived at the same time as usual, I couldn't bring myself to smile.. I felt like crying. Everyone was watching me. Then something I could not believe happened, he walked over and hugged me. He was so warm. Everyone stared at us, mostly at Klyde. The bell went for class and I sneakily attached myself to Klyde's arm, he didn't seem bothered by it which, honestly I was kinda surprised about. It felt, nice. I never left Klyde's side that day, well, almost. But yeah. The day was quiet and, it wasn't too bad, until I got home..

He somehow found out about me having Klyde over and was not happy about it, he yelled about how he was a dirty lowlife and only wanted to use me for pleasure, I tried to argue and defend but, he slapped me across the face. Then he pulled out his belt and started whipping me, it hurt so much, I screamed in agony. Afterwards, I couldn't bring myself to message Klyde, I barely slept.

Next morning I got to school, slowly climbed out of the car, gave a quick glance at Klyde then went and hid in a corner, I signalled for him to come closer, and he did. I told him what had happened, that I was scared and didn't know what to do. He told me to try to relax. Has he done this before? He was so relaxed and his voice was so.. Comforting. The day went by pretty quickly, I once again stuck by Klyde's side, just his mere presence was oddly relaxing and warm.

End of school came and Klyde leaned over and whispered that he was coming with me. I questioned him and warned that he might get hurt, but in the end I accepted it and we headed off. As we climbed out of the car my dad slammed the door open, he yelled at me as he walked towards us, then moved to slap me across the face. Before I even knew what was happening Klyde had slid between us and took the blow, my dad questioned him then went in for another blow, Klyde caught his hand then held out his other, he was holding his phone and emergency services were on the line. My dad then yelled at him, questioned my mum for comforting me, called me a traitor, before pouncing on Klyde and beating him on the pavement.

Police arrived and instantly pounced into action, pulling my dad off Klyde and cuffing him. Before leaving he yelled that he'd be back. Klyde joined us inside, he was bleeding but otherwise seemed okay. I told him his face looked messed up. Then my mum gave me a look and suddenly I felt bad, I apologised then thanked him for his comfort and help. He just looked at me, clearly in too much pain to speak, but his eyes were so soft looking, despite the pain he must've been in he seemed, calm and relaxed.

My mum tended to Klyde's wounds while I sat next to him, keeping calm. His phone rang and I picked up, it was the chief of police. He called to tell us my father had escaped. Then told me to stay calm and that they had people searching for him. Then said we should keep Klyde at our place to keep us all under surveillance. You know the rest.
