Chapter 26

Since Sandra left the house, Ken made it his duty to check on me daily. He turned out to be more friendly than I could ever imagine. One thing I cherish most about him is that since Sandra traveled, she never come to the house empty-handed. He even buys me lunch at times. He makes me feel like Sandra is still behind me. He even has the spare key to our house. And I never regret it because he always surprises me. Whatever finishes in the fridge, I don't know how he gets to know but he replaces it even before I may need it. I became fond of Ken. I then started to see him as a friend and not a beast as I thought. He Pampers me just like aunty Sandra.

The day he couldn't visit, it was like I fell sick. Everywhere became empty. I even noticed ' I am alone in the house. I noticed Sandra wasn't there. I called him to inquire whether all was well with him but couldn't allow him to know I miss him as much. His reason for not visiting was genuine to me but I still wanted to see him. Sandra got jealous because almost every evening when she calls Ken, he'll be in our house. One day Sandra even asked to know why he was always in her house while she was not around but Ken would just turn it into a joke and make her feel more jealous

Days passed and we finished our exams. Already Ken knew that I was to travel to Abuja. I started having a double mind. Already I'm comfortable here in Enugu and I also have someone that takes good care of me. Do I know what I may meet in Abuja? I don't even know who I may meet or how my days in Abuja may be. Won't the killers continue threatening my life? I don't know whether to go or to stay. Ken turned more friendly than I imagined. Or is he looking for something I'm yet to know? No! He's been kind even when my aunt was still around. But now, if I seize to travel, Sandra would think otherwise and think if I may be doing anything bad behind her back. If I travel, will I see someone that may take care of me like Ken and Sandra? Those two people are godsent in my life. God help me out.

I told Ken the day I would like to travel. Also called aunty Sandra to notify her. Even before I could call Jimmy, she already discussed with Jimmy the day I want to travel. Ken turned me to his daughter. He took me shop where he bought new clothes and shoes just for me. I knew not how to pay him back, so I prepared a variety of soups and gave him before the day I travel. Already he knew Sandra gave me some money for my transportation before she left but Ken still followed me to the park and paid for my transportation. God bless Ken. Now I know the reason why my aunty fell in love with him. His handsomeness didn't just end on his appearance. It extended to his heart. Very caring and generous. Sometimes God just brings people into my life to make me smile. Aunty Sandra and her fiance are blessings to me. May my God bless them.

Almost every hour of the journey, Ken would call to know how far we'd gone. Sometimes it was even his calls that woke me from sleep. Every time he would be addressing me with Baby Jessy just as my aunt would always do.

I got to the last bus stop and called Uncle Jimmy just as he directed me to do.

Wow!!!! Everyday young! you didn't change... I screamed as I saw Jimmy with a young boy of my age smiling as they came closer to me.

And you are a grown woman. God! Jessy, you're more mature than I imagined. That means my friend Sandra is trying... Jimmy also replied. We smiled at his jokes then I hugged him. His words were too sarcastic to me. How have I grown more than my mates?

Though that wasn't my concern then. I called my people, Ken and Sandra then told them that I'm with Jimmy already. Everyone was happy the journey was successful. He drove us home in his car. I never knew the young boy is Jimmy's son. Jeff is just handsome and even jovial. my eyes didn't deceive me. During our conversation while in Jimmy's car, he rightly told me that Jeff his son is my agemate. Thou we have like four months gap. To make the whole thing balance, we were still schoolmates.

I was given a warm welcome in Jimmy's house. The family is friendly I may say...

They already prepared a room for me where I'll stay alone since Uncle Jimmy has only two sons and not even a daughter. Jimmy's wife is such a darling. I can't even tell who welcomes me more than the other. I had to cling to a woman, she's the one I think may know what ladies want. This same day I arrived, Jimmy's wife, Ruth already invited me to the kitchen to help her. I agreed to pay the visit, I must face whatever comes around. We prepared the meal together and the woman was proud of me. She used me as an example to his sons. She was like, "can't you see someone of your mate doing almost everything in the kitchen but you people can't even boil water". Trust Jimmy. He doesn't allow his wife to finish before he defends his sons. The sweetest part of Jimmy's family is that everyone is just equal. Jimmy even calls his sons guys. Though Everyone knows the boundary. After dinner, we do gist like schoolmates before we go to bed.

The part I found interesting was when Jimmy and his sons were watching a football match together. Someone needs to witness the argument with me. The boys were even overshadowing their father in the argument. I thought that was all but still saw Jeff playing a video game with Jimmy. I'm already jealous of this family. Why isn't my own family like this? Or why am I not a part of this family? But I don't think they're fair to Mrs. Ruth. Whenever they're playing games or watching matches, she'll just be sitting quietly behind them operating her Laptop.
