Chapter 25

.... Darling Jay now that you have your phone that means you won't be sleeping on time again? That was Sarah questioning me since we were alone during the break period.

Sarah, what do you mean by that?

Jay, you'll be chatting both on Facebook and WhatsApp even Instagram and Twitter.....

I don't even know how to start with all those things you just mentioned. I'm still learning how to operate this phone.

Chai!! Village girl. I thought you were born in Abuja.

Does that make any change?

Yeah, suppose you must know all those things

Had I continued with my parents, I might even have had my handset before now, but since I'm with my aunt, she doesn't even allow me to operate her own.

That's true but you need to learn. I don't even have mine but I used to operate my mother's own.

You're just lucky.....

It's a good friend... We continued chitchatting.

Sarah, my aunt may travel soon and I'll be alone for a long. I'm planning if may travel to Abuja during the holidays so I won't be alone.

Wow! That won't be easy for you Jay. When exactly will she travel?

In three days... I answered Sarah

Just try and conclude your traveling plans before she leaves the house, so she may give you the transport fare and also discuss with the people before you travel

..... That's wonderful. You're such a darling if not for your trouble. I needed to tease her a bit.

I thought I was discussing with someone with a brain not knowing her skull was empty. We all started laughing.

As I got home from school, I picked up my phone and called Jimmy. He was excited when he heard that I'm the one. He kept asking me questions just to know how I'd been all those while. At some point, I told him about my plan of spending the holidays at his house. To my surprise, he even liked it more than I thought. He even got excited. He said he never knew I could just remember him as I did. He also narrated how he wanted to visit us but something came up and he couldn't make it. That was just a green light to my plans.

I told aunty Sandra about my plan to travel. She didn't find it easy to agree since she knew how we left Abuja. She insisted that everything just is pending until she confirms if I'll be safe when I travel. Since we left Abuja, we only Make calls but don't visit anyone there. She inquired from Jimmy who assured her that everything has been settled. That I would be safe. But as she plays a mother in my life, she needed to make sure her daughter doesn't fall into the hands of bloodsuckers. She went on and called Zick who also affirmed that I won't be harmed. Zick advised that I maintain a lower profile when I arrive in Abuja. That won't be a problem since I've been a 'nobody' since we arrived in Enugu.

Aunty Sandra stocked the house and also filled the fridge with fruit and drinks. The night before She traveled, it was just like children's Sunday school. She rained down advice on me as if I were already wayward. She advised me in almost all parts of life. Even the one I know I won't get across until many years later. She advised that at my age, I'm not supposed to have anyone like a boyfriend. And I won't allow such a thing to even come to my mind because I'm young. Although that has never come to my mind. She said much about young people keeping boyfriends but because that has never come to my mind, it was just like she was talking to someone else. She also cautioned that I maintain a lower profile and don't even try to bring up anything about the death of my parents. She requested that I don't leave Jimmy's estate alone. I agreed though I never know how Abuja might be when I get there. Later in the night, Ken came with his car. In the morning, I followed them to the airport. I and Ken waited until they took off then we got back to the house. Ken also gave me some money since he knew I would be alone at home. Since Sandra took an early morning flight, I dressed up and went to school.

Unlike the Jessy they knew in the class, I came late to the class. On seeing me at the entrance door to our class, Desmond came closer to me and asked the reasons. I can't remember what I told him but I know I didn't tell him the truth. Just found a way to make him leave me at the moment. I couldn't even look at his face to know whether he was happy or angry but needed to fix myself somewhere so I won't feel embarrassed if the whole class started looking at me.

Thank God Sarah who I know may make the whole thing worse already know the reason. She comported herself and act as if she didn't see what happened between me and Desmond. We just hugged and quietly maintained our seats.
