Chapter 43

.....Both of them stood up and walked to a corner

I watched them as they discussed with each other. The expression on Dave's face changed as they continued the discussion. They were still discussing when Nathan came back. He stared at me suspiciously. Though I never made him know that I noticed anything. Immediately, Dave and Jeff came back and sat in their respective positions. I heard a beep from my phone. Behold it was Dave's text message.

... Babe, don't panic. Nothing will happen to you. Everything is under control.

I lifted my head from where I was reading the message just to see that Nathan and Dave were already in the same corner where Dave and Jeff stood while discussing. The fact that they were discussing as friends heightened my fear. In a short, their voice started getting higher

.... I said no one is playing any games on her. She's my girlfriend... I overheard Dave speak to him

Calm down, Dave. The stake is high... Nathan told Dave.

Immediately Jeff tapped me and signaled to me that we should exit the party hall. So frightened as I was. I stood up fidgetily and followed Jeff. Not to make it obvious, we didn't display it really as if we were in a hurry. Though truly we were in a hurry. At the exit door, the hefty man standing there couldn't just allow us to exit without many questions. We were explaining to him that we needed to get something outside when Dave met us. The expression on his face wasn't friendly. He couldn't entertain such questions from the man at the door. With a harsh voice, he just told the man that he needed to get things outside and we were together. Because of his voice and his facial expressions, He allowed us to pass.

Jessy, be fast let's get inside my car and I'll take you home... He told me

Yes sir. I and Jeff walked hastily to his car. He turned on the ignition switch and was about to drive out of the hotel premises when we heard a gunshot. I looked back and found out Sam was still the person shooting at us. He made his shooting towards our direction continuously. Because we were already at the gate, the gatekeeper couldn't just shut the gate at us. We rushed out of the hotel.

Thinking that I have escaped the quagmire, we noticed that there was a vehicle following us. Dave slowed down to see whether they could overtake us but the vehicle also slowed down.

.... Bitches!!! Please everyone should put on his or her seatbelt. There's a problem... Said, Dave

What's wrong again Dave? Jeff asked curiously

Those guys are still following us. But don't panic. He replied Jeff.

Already I was shivering like never. I didn't know when hot tears started rolling down my eyes. I heard a sound from the front of the car just to see Dave bringing out a gun from his dashboard.

Jesus!!!!! I screamed but he couldn't allow me to say anything before he intruded

.. I brought it out for your safety and something like this. Be quiet, please...

I really can't tell how he touched the gun with his other hand but I just heard a "chucking" sound from the gun

We were still acting somehow like a drama when we heard another gunshot that exactly hit the side mirror from Jeff's side.

..... Jeff take the wheel!!! Dave screamed and dragged Jeff's hand to the steering. Then they exchanged positions. As all those things were happening, Dave's phone kept ringing and ringing. He faced the direction from where the gunshot came.

Dave, please don't shoot!! They're trained policemen and they'll be against you later...I told Dave trying to calm him down

That's if we survive, cos they didn't plan this as if they'll go back without gunning someone down. And I won't allow that to happen to anyone here...He replied

Just as if he took my advice, he brought out his phone and I only heard

"Meet us at Sharp Corner Things are getting hotter down here"

He couldn't finish his words before we heard another gunshot. He wound down the car glass, stretched out his hand, and shot back at them.

I never knew Dave had a gun, talk more of knowing how to use it.

"Where do I drive to? We're approaching a junction" Jeff asked

" Take right and we'll follow Abacha road. Some guys are already waiting for us there...In hurry, Dave replied to Jeff.

To me, things were turning unbearable. Dave was busy shooting back at the people following us while Jeff continued driving as fast as he could. I, on my own, was just crying inside the car. It surprised me as everywhere was lonely.

We got to a place where Dave told Jeff to stop the car. He stopped it and cautioned everyone to get out of the car. Since the people following us were a bit far from us, I thought it wise to obey him. We got down and followed him through a narrow road as he led us into his house. Just in a moment, we started hearing gunshots from afar.

"Jessy, here's my house. You're all welcome. Make yourselves comfortable. They won't reach here. Some of my friends have started retaliating on your behalf and I trust them. They'll serve Sam and his crew right" Dave started sounding friendly again. He saw the attack as something normal but Jeff couldn't explain what just happened to us. Though that wasn't my first time witnessing the attack

Dave insisted that I should freshen up. Though I knew he was just looking for a means to make me feel relaxed that couldn't just come easily.

Jeff was quiet trying to recall all that happened when his father called.

... Hello Dad ... Jeff talked to him since he pressed the "answer" icon on his phone

Jeff, hope you're safe. Where are you now... Jimmy asked from his end

Daddy, we're safe. You don't need to bother yourself, sir... Jeff tried to make his Dad feel like all was well

What of Jessy? Jimmy asked him

She's fine we're together here. Jessy greets Daddy...Jeff handed the phone over to me

Hi Uncle we're fine sir...I replied to Jimmy to calm his nerves.

I just heard from a friend that some tout just started releasing gunshots during the party and everyone ran for their safety. I can come to your rescue if you people are not safe.

U,ncle we're fine. We're somewhere on Abacha road. In our Judo coach's house. As the chaos was about to start, he carried us in his car to his house. Now we're safe...

Forward the address to me so that I'll come and carry you people
