Chapter 68

It was late at night as I was already in bed while wearing my night wears. I was just busy checking my social media messages. Scrolling up and down on my phone. I heard a knock on the door. I felt strange since we all had our dinner together, and I have no unfinished discussion with anyone. Besides, the boys don't use to come

around my room at night. "Who must I expect at this time of the night" The question kept popping up in my mind. Since I was calm to decide what to do, I heard another knock, so smooth and friendly.

Instantly I recalled what transpired between myself and Mrs. Ruth. "That must be Uncle Jimmy," I thought. Since I'd concluded that Jimmy was the one, my mind skipped because I never predicted him well. Since I'd not turned off my light, he knows that I was yet to sleep. I got down from the bed and opened the door quietly. I was too nervous that I didn't even know what to tell him as he walked into the room. He walked to the bed and sat down majestically.

"Uncle Good evening Sir"

I didn't know where that greeting came from, but I heard myself greeting him.

"Good evening once again my daughter. Trust your day was well spent?" He asked with such a friendly tone.

I couldn't allow him to drop the last word before I replied to him

"Yeah! Yeah!! It was well spent. How was yours?"

He then replied, "Just as usual. From one office to the other handling different cases, but that's fine." He started then jokingly said, "I signed for it anyway"

"Yeah, you signed for it, but that doesn't mean you can't complain when it's getting hard on you" I answered

"That's fine, but that's not why I'm here"

He said

What I just heard sent icy blood down my spine, since I could vividly recall what happened between me and his wife.

"Ok, I'm all ears' sir" I replied in a fury

"Well, Jessy, sit"

On hearing his command, I sat on the bed. But to confess, I got scared since he's always unpredictable.

He started by telling me a story. In his story, which he said was his life story, he said…

"… Jessy, there's something that happened to me while I was still young, which I can't forget rushing. I found my first love at 20. Princess was very charming. I loved her, but the truth is that she loved me more than I loved her. Then I was still a student. My parents were still feeding me and still paying all my bills. I had no means of income then. I was afraid to tell my parents that I was seeing someone. She was 19 then. At a point, I summoned the courage to tell my father. He smiled and asked me to focus on my studies. A few weeks later, he seized to give me money except my tuition fee. I couldn't pay my bills as usual. Since I was unable to foot my bills, I couldn't even ask about Princess's own. Then we started quarreling for every slightest provocation. Then the bond that was bounding us began to grow weak and weaker as days passed by. I kept explaining everything about my situation to Princess, but she was unable to view things from the same angle as me. Well, we broke up before the holidays. As I was in the house during the holidays, my father didn't ask for Princess for up to two weeks. As he finally asked, I couldn't just be accurate in my response. I knew not that he was observing everything I was doing. He then told me that I can't depend on my father's wealth to feed another person from a different family"

As if the shock he noticed on my face wasn't enough for him. He continued.

"It's true, Love is the main thing that brings two people of different sex together and keeps them. But it must be scrutinized to determine whether that's True Love or Infatuation."

Then he paused.

I looked into his eyes with immense confusion.

"Jessy, did you note anything in what I just narrated to you?" He asked with a mischievous smile.

"Not really sir" I replied

"Hm! Hm!! Hm!!!" He gave such a wicked grin,

"Well, I heard what transpired between you and my wife. I didn't come to scold you. I only came to tell you to know what you're doing, and also to remind you that you'll bear the consequences alone if you make any mistake. You've not for once tell me Dave's occupation. But you love him, you never tell me this is his investment, but you love him. You never for once, tell anyone where his office is situated, but you love him. Well, your parents prepared a happy life for you. But I won't allow you to squander all they labored for. It's a time you become diplomatic in reasoning. You're no more a kid" He concluded.

"Thank you uncle, but.…" I was already blobbing

"There's no 'BUT' in this. I love you. We love you. There's no proof he's of equal measure to you. I don't think Dave is the best for you."

"Well, thank you, sir. I...."

He couldn't allow me to conclude my words before he said, "make use of your brain even if it's for the first time" and then he left my room.
