They reached the inn an hour later.
"I have something I need to have done today; will you accept the task?"
"Yes, sir!" he said without hesitation.
"Take this," he tossed another of those pouches to him, "Bring me all the liver you can find in this city before sunrise. You can keep the rest as your reward," he turned and entered the inn.
The Scarface looked at the bag in his hand and peeked inside to find a fortune. He didn't dare to disobey the man. There was no need either. They would be rich with this even if they gathered all the liver in the city. So he contacted all his people and many more, assigning them sections of the town to purchase all the liver. After all, it was getting close to sunrise.
After entering, he let the attendant know that there may be people coming to look for him. Adding a moment after that, he would be leaving tomorrow when the gates open. Asking if it was okay for him to use the communal bathing area before that. He got a positive answer and went to change his clothes as he sent Yong-Sun to wash up.
Sometime later. The twins come to look for 'Master Liam.'
"Isn't this a bit too soon to deliver the liver?" he asked the moment he entered the room he was allowed to receive his guests.
"Sir, it is not about the liver. The boss is doing everything he can to gather it all. It is about the two children. We asked the boss, but he didn't care." One of them said.
"We are not bad people. But seeing the kid's situation made us think that Master Liam may have some ideas." The other added.
"Their grandmother passed away when she heard the news." The first one opened his mouth.
"If people found out that the two kids had enough money to buy their freedom..." The second left it hanging. It also disturbed Liam that they could talk like that, but he was somewhat amused by their connection.
"They'd be targeted by everyone," Liam concluded. "Can't you take them?"
The twins looked at each other.
"We are not their parents, and if we took them, then Master Liam's good deed of freeing them would be useless."
"I had no intention of freeing them. I just gave what I had and didn't need."
This response made the twins think that 'This man is weird.' They couldn't find any greed in his words. 'Who in the world would just give away money just because he didn't need it at the moment.'
'It could also mean that he had the means to acquire more money if he wanted to.' they thought simultaneously. They didn't know if it was true, and they weren't sure what he was. They had zero information on how he was so rich or who he was. They had just received the order from their boss. They didn't ask questions, and that's how the group worked.
This was another reason they wished they could go with him when he left. But they knew that he wasn't going to stay in this place. He seemed to be too big for this place, and it wouldn't be able to handle him.
Someone who could fight like that ... There was only two words they could come up with. He was a genius, simple as that, or he was a freaking genius among geniuses making him an unparalleled monster.
The twins started with their shared talking again.
"We were thinking ..."
"Can Master Liam take them,"
"At least to the next city."
Liam looked at both of them. They were serious.
"Tell me why you want me to do this." he needed to know the reasons. Especially why he should take on a burden that he didn't need to carry.
"...we had similar circumstances," They started.
"Only we didn't have a benefactor like Master Liam."
"..." this took Liam by surprise. "I killed basically both their family members," Liam couldn't understand why they pushed this so hard.
"Our parents were killed while hunting. They were used as bait, one after the other."
"They knew their fate and prepared us as best they could."
"Yet, they couldn't prepare us for the horrors we faced."
"And somehow we survived," the concluded the introduction.
"Tell me," He asked in a tone that left them without a choice. Either they tell or loos everything they want. So they did; they spoke about the time they were starved. When they were beaten until they were black and blue. How old they were when they were first used as adult toys, and so on.
The expression on Liam's face was something neither of the twins could read.
"Go, bring them to the main gate when it opens tomorrow." the tone of his voice left them no room to say anything but to agree with him.
"Yes, sir!" they answered in unison.
"Sir, we would like to follow you as well."
A smile spread on Liam's face.
"I will accept you. I truly like you. But you cannot follow me now, right?"
"Yes, we are not free."
"How much?"
"Fifty silver coins each," they answered without hesitation in unison. "We do not want master's money. We want to free ourselves and follow you then."
"That would be perfect." Liam agreed with their statement.
"Remember this: 'A call will come after everything trembles.' It will come in an unusual way, so don't be alarmed."
The meeting ended after that, and the twins rushed off to secure the kids and make appropriate arrangements for their travels. Soon, the Scarface came looking and delivered a massive load of liver.
This has caused some difficulties for some people. An outroar of displeasure was heard all over Maple City. The few nobles and commoners who liked the liver were behind it. But nothing could be done. And nothing could be found out where the liver had disappeared to. So, only a new hunting group was sent out a few days earlier than usual.
