How will you break someone who's already broken?

Mark looked at the clock and it was nearly 11 pm he didn't even notice he had laid beside her for so long and didn't even have one wink of sleep. He stared at her face for some time before feeling her body becoming warm and sweaty.

He slowly removed his body away from hers and took a seat on the bed. His eyes stared at her sleeping pale face without realizing for how long.

She looked lifeless. The dark shadows under eyes. Her swollen eyes and obvious pain on her face. He was taking his revenge all along without having one bit of remorse.

Suddenly he remembered the say he met James in the hospital. He sighed remembering their conversation.

FLASHBACK:

James: Mark your sister is really worried for you and Anna. You seriously need to stop this madness.

Mark: Why is she worried about that girl? She should be happy that finally, I am getting closure. I will finally get peace by seeing her in pain then why is she making it such a big deal!.

James: Forgive her Mark. Please. Jules already forgives her and I can feel it. She didn't want any revenge. She can't see you in pain and regret.

Mark: Regret? huh! For what?

James: Regret is the most painful feeling one can feel Mark and the burden of it are like a slow poison that kills you slowly slowly. Anna might never say anything to you Mark but I have seen her at the party. The regret and pain in her gaze were obvious whenever she looks at you. She looked lifeless. A broken soul. So tell me one thing Mark, How will you break someone who's already broken? I could see that regret inside her all these years had eaten her beyond my imagination. Your punishments and torture she might take thinking she deserves it but does think about it sitting alone Mark. Does she deserve it? Does she deserve to be degraded every second? Does she deserve to be treated like a toy? An object. Remember my boy. Regret is something which is far worst than any torture Mark.

(James placed his hand on Mark's squeezing it a little before completing his words.)

James: But if the torture you have decided for her crossed the limit then regret wouldn't be only for that girl. It will be your fate as well. So take my advice and make the right decision. Because she's dying in remorse and I don't want you to go through it too.

FLASHBACK END.

Mark sighed when he remember his words. Indeed James's words in some way were right. Regret is painful punishment itself. No one needs to kill a person whose already drowning in an ocean of guilt.

He didn't take those words seriously as he thought James might be just mistaking Anna's desperation to earn forgiveness as Regret but now Mark knew he was right.

She's indeed drowning in the river of remorse. She's dying in regret. She has lost herself while trying to redeem the vicious act she did. One sin. Only one sin she did cause him so much to lose.

He knew it wasn't entirely her fault but it was her fault could his revenge cure the painful past he had by making her present full of thorns.

Will his past scars be healed by wounding her present?

But the main question will his torture be able to make wound her when she's already half dies because of regret?
