Chapter thirty five

"The witch. She had gotten herself pregnant so she could marry the boss" Helen, the secretary told one of the intern and the receptionist. Merry, the receptionist. Scoffed out loud as they saw Sophie coming from the cafeteria.

"Here comes the devil." She said.

Sophie walked closer to them, trying to make friends. But they totally snobbed her.

"Hello, am Sophie. The new manager" she told them even though their expressions spoke otherwise.

"Yeah, we know. The bitch who got herself pregnant for the Big Boss." One of them said.

"Ouch that hurts" another one said and the three of them burst out laughing.

Sophie tried to smile. Trying so hard to not look hurt. " We can be friends right? I don't want to be lonely here"

"And who wants to be friend with a whore like you, will you do us the favor of walking away from here ma'am, we despise you"

Sophie slowly turned around, trying to control the tears that's threatening to fall. And she bumped into a solid chest. She looked up and saw Marcus staring at them.

He looked down at her. And slid his hand to the back of her head, caressing her hair.

"Marcus" she whispered tearily.

He pushed her aside gently and walked towards the three worker whom had harassed her.

He had heard everything. And he was so furious.

She turned to see Stella by her side.

"Please help me tell him it's okay. I don't want any more trouble with them."

"The boss won't let them off easily. He hate shits and they know that." Stella told her.

She walked towards him. Wanting to stop him from doing anything stupid.

"The three of you," he started pointing to the three already pale girls.

"We are sorry sir...we didn't...I didn't mean anything I said" Helen stammered.

"Point of correction, she didn't get herself pregnant. I got her pregnant, as a woman that you are, you should know that a woman can't just get herself pregnant without the man. And for what you did, for hurting my woman, you're all fired!" He bellowed at them and everyone present gasped.

Sophie tugged at his arm and tried to talk sense into him.

"No Marcus.....don't do......"

He dragged his arm away from her and faced her.

"Stay out if this!" He almost screamed at her and she backed off.

They tried to beg him. Everyone tried, apart from Stella who knew there was no point begging. He had made the decision. He doesn't go back on his words.

"Please sir...please sir we promise it won't happen again."

"Yeah...it won't, that's why you're all fired and that's final." He turned around, grabbed Sophie's arm and made for the elevator.

"Marcus... please, don't do this. Am sure we can all sort things out" she tried to tell him to change his mind.

"Shut the hell up Sophie, or you can as well go back home." He told her clearly still angry as they both stepped into the elevator. Stella with them.

"Make sure they leave in an hour, I don't ever want to see them step foot into my company again." He told Stella

"Yes sir!"

Sophie signed in confusion, Even Stella wasn't helping matters.

She sent Marcus a pleading look but he didn't even spare her a glance.

The rest of the day went in a blur, Marcus was in a foul mood all day long even as Sophie tried her best to make him happy, distracting him from time to time. He only kept a poker face at all her joking disturbance. They sure had ruined his day.

"We'll be going home in few minutes so get ready" he told her.

Sophie frowned and checked her wristwatch."the time here says four minutes after seven, why the rush! We can very well stay to your normal time."

"My normal time is eight, nine. But you're pregnant, you need to retire early to bed."

"But am not even heavy yet for you to be treating me this way. Stop it Marcus, I don't like it when you treat me like a child, just because am pregnant"

Marcus opened his mouth to argue with her but locked up on second instinct. He was angry with her. But he'll wait until they got home before they start an argument.

" We're leaving now, and that's final" he said not looking at her already reddened with anger face.

"Fine!" With this she stomped out of his office and began getting ready for home.

It has been long since she called him a scumbag, but he was one right now.

A Total Scumbag.

They both got home in a foul mood that day, Sophie got down from the car as soon as he parked and went inside, not waiting for him.

As soon as she got inside, she went to the kitchen to start preparing dinner but Marcus stopped her.

"Don't stress yourself sweetheart, we'll order something to eat"

Sophie sagged in annoyance. And faced him. Hands on her hip.

"Wait, what do you take me for, am used to working Marcus, and you can't just tell me don't do this, don't do that. Am only close to three months, am not heavy yet!"

"You're not heavy yet means if you stress yourself too much. You can loose the baby Sophie. You're a woman and you should know this."

"I can't loose the baby, I told you that...that....see Marcus, am capable of doing this things.... please" she was tired of the argument. She rested against the cabinet, her head spinning, and she felt numb.

Marcus rushed towards her, and drew her softly towards him, worry written on his face.

"What's wrong my love" he asked her slipping some strands of her hair behind her ears. And he studied her face. She had gone pale and weak.

This was what he was talking about. He didn't want anything to happen to her, or the baby. That's why it seems like he was over protective.

He carried her in his arms and took her upstairs, she needs absolute rest.

"Should I get a doctor?" He asked as he placed her gently on the bed.

"Noo...am okay, am....an just tired" she told him softly, her voice only above a whisper.

"You must be hungry, what are you craving. Tell me if it's something I can prepare." He told her.

She smiled softly, and took his arm.

"Thank you. But whatever you ordered is fine. You must be as tired as I am. I don't want you dressed up after a long day at work"

"You aren't stressing me"

"So don't prepare anything."

They heard the door bell.

"That must be the delivery man." Marcus said standing to leave.

"I'll be back shortly." He then left.

Marcus rushed down the stairs to get the door and opened it. But instead of the delivery man. His father stood on his front porch.

What was the old man looking for.
