Marcus drove swiftly into the hospital driveway and parked amongst the other cars. First he was going to see the doctor, then he would go and check on Sophie.
As she was about to enter. he saw Stella coming out, trying to get something out of her bag and she almost bumped into him.
"Ohh, Am sorry sir" She quickly said when she looked up and saw it was him.
"It's Okay, how's Sophie"
"She's doing great, The doctor attended to her not long ago and he said she should rest for the night. She'll take her last dose of medication tommorow"
"That's good, She's resting now?"
"She just fell asleep, but you can still meet her a little awake"
He nodded "What of Camille?"
"She has fallen asleep also. Try not to disturb them if they're both sound asleep, she needs her rest"
Marcus walked into the hospital as Stella also left to get what she wanted, no need for him to see the doctor since he has attended to her already. He thought as he walked to her room.
As he was about to turn to the hall way where her room was, his phone rang and he stopped to pick it.
**** *****
Sophie was drifting off to sleep when she heard the cracking of the door, meaning someone had entered. She believed it was Stella who was back from where she went to so she didn't bother turning back to make sure.
Sophie fell into a peaceful yet traumatized sleep, the image of her mother's dead body kept flooding her mind and she went into an hazy yet terrorizing dream. The room was quite, weird. Why isn't Stella moving about. Or was it Marcus whom had entered and didn't want to disturb her sleep.
Then if he was the one, She won't bother opening her eyes and she'll keep to let him know she was still awake.
She could feel movement above her head, where the monitor was. What was he looking for? She thought.
**** ****
Marcus placed the phone to his ear and the first thing he heard was laughter.
"Your pregnant girlfriend must be dying now. You can run as fast as you can but you'll never be able to save her. The injection that was put into her drips should be working. She'll sleep but will never wake up Marcus ahhhhhhahh" The voice said then burst into an agony laughter.
With the phone still placed in his ears, He turned into the corridor, stared at Sophie's room door and ran towards it. He tried the door handle but it was locked.
"Fuck!" He said and kicked the door opened.
He saw someone dressed up in a nurse attire. inserting an injection into the drip.
When the person saw him. She quickly dropped what she was doing and looked for a way to run away.
"Sophie!!" He shouted and ran toward the woman. Gripped her hard by the collar. Not minding that she was a woman. And he pinned her to the wall.
Sophie was up now. thinking about what was happening.
"What........"
"Remove the drip from you hand!" He screamed at her, not letting go of the woman who he held tightly to the wall.
"Remove the darn drip Sophie, it's going to kill you!"
Sophie was confused, and kept on staring at Marcus like he was mad.
Marcus didn't want to leave the woman and let her escape, But Sophie should be able to do that.
"Sophie please, remove it." He almost cried.
He was about to let go of the woman and remove it for her when Stella ran into the room and grabbed Sophie's hand, ripped out the drips and threw them out the window.
Marcus sagged in relief. And then he face the woman he was holding captive
"Who sent you?" He asked but she smiled and removed the cloth covering her face.
He shifted Back in amazement and fury.
"Leslie?!" Sophie said in wonder.
"I work with Brian now, since you've gotten Stacy" With that she dashed out of the door before anyone could follow her. Even Marcus was too striken by amazement that he didn't run after her to get her.
"Marcus?" The soft voice of Sophie brought him back to the present, and he walked towards her.
"Are you okay? How do you feel?"
"I feel fine thank you. And...am.....am sorry for not listening to you"
"I understand......I understand. Stella get the doctor and get the police too"
"No Marcus.....no police please" She begged him.
"We need to get this reported Sophie. You were almost killed just now"
"No Marcus, Don't!" She begged with the last strength she has.
Marcus nodded due to her teary face, and Stella left to get the doctor. Few patients had gathered to Know what had happened. When the doctor came, he was with some Cops.
The doctor's wise. Marcus thought as the cops took statements from everyone who's ready to give. Sophie refused to say anything. And she lied back against the bed and pretended to be asleep.
"You need to give a statement" Stella crouched down and whispered to her.
"I don't want to. Am tired of talking to the police, everyone should leave me alone" Sophie told Stella quietly.
Stella stood up and faced the cops,
"She's pregnant and frustrated and she's too tired to give any statement now. When she's okay, she'll come over to the station and give her statement" Stella explained.
The men nodded their understanding and left few minutes later after inspecting the place to make sure no one was lurking around again.
Immediately they left, Marcus grabbed his phone and dialed Ben, his bodyguard contact.
"How many of you are available?" He asked. " Come over!" He said when Ben said they where all available.
"My guard will be here any minute from now. And they'll be guarding you here till you'll leave."
She nodded and looked away.
His gaze fell on Camille, who sat quietly on the sofa in the room and stared around. He felt pity for the poor child. She must have been scared out of her wit with what had just happened.
He extended his arms to her.
"Come here Camille" He told her and she ran into his arms. He picked her up and turned to Stacy and Sophie.
"I want to get her something to lighten her mood down the road. We'll be back shortly." He told them.
The smile that spread across Sophie's face was sweet and genuine and she nodded her understanding too.
As he left, The doctor came in and examined her all over again, making sure the poisonous dose didn't get to her body.
"You where quick enough to remove it. So you're safe and well. Your heartbeat has increased. You need to work on bringing it down again. Apart from these you're very much okay and if your heartbeat can be brought back to normal, you'll be discharged tommorow afternoon."
"Thanks doctor." Sophie said and she layed back on the bed. And she placed a hand on her big stomach.
"I love you baby. you just have to bear with me for the main time. An sure that all will be well"
Stella smiled, and the doctor gave her a friendly nod as he left the room.
