Chapter Forty eight

Sophie got down from the car, helping Camille too as they stood in front of the white building of the only hospital In town.

The guard, Eliot, got down from the car too and followed them into the building.

"I was expecting it to be crowded since it's the only hospital in town" Evelina said as they walked into the not so crowded reception.

"I thought as much, but I bet it's because of there are few people living here, I wonder who owns the place" Sophie answered as they made their way to the sweet smiling nurse at the reception.

"Hello" the nurse said as they came closer.

"Hi" Evelina said.

"Hi" Sophie answered.

The nurse waved at Camille who waved back too.

Such a sweet child. Sophie thought.

"We just moved into the neighborhood and decided to register here" Sophie said, showing the nurse her big stomach.

"Oh.....How many months gone are you?" the nurse asked grabbing a new chart and scribbling on it.

"Six months"

"Ok.....Your name?"

"Sophie Martin"

The nurse wrote it down "Your husband's name?" She asked again, not looking up to see the expression ob Sophie's face.

Sophie sent a glance to Evelina who nodded her head.

"I'm not married"

The nurse's eyes widened and she quickly apologized.

"Oh.....I'm sorry Miss Martin. But your baby surely has a father"

"Yeah. Marcus"

"Only Marcus?"

"Marcus Slyvester"Evelina said

"The boss doesn't like bearing his father's name" Elliot said, coming forward.

"Put Marcus Anderson instead, that's the name he made for himself" Sophie said. The nurse began writing down the name but suddenly looked up in amazement.

"Marcus Anderson is the father of your baby? The Owner of the Exclusives?"

Sophie nodded slowly.

"Wow!"The nurse almost screamed but cautioned herself at the last minute. Writing down what she needed to write, she looked up again and smiled at Sophie.

"Please follow me, let me lead you to the doctor's office" She said and Sophie followed her, Evelina and Camille by her side. Elliot following obediently at the back.

The door opened and the nurse entered a big, Yellow painted office with Sophie and the rest following behind her.

Sophie looked up and saw Dave sitting on the doctor's chair.

What?!

Dave was the doctor here?

"Dave?"

"Sophie!" He said as he stood up from the chair and walked towards her.

He walked towards her, his arms outstretched for a hug, Sophie was about to hug him when Elliot came between them. Putting a stop to their summoning concept with a frown on his face as he shook his head at Sophie.

"Calm down Elliot, he's just my Friend" She told him,and after he gave Dave the 'don't do anything stupid' look, he stepped back and Dave drew her into his arms and hugged her. Her big stomach only preventing them from getting too close.

Elliot was glad for that.

"How have you been, it just felt like you disappeared from the face of the Earth" Sophie told him.

He smiled and sat her down. Pointing to some cushions for Evelina and Camille to sit before he sat down himself. Still giving the standing Elliot a furrowed look.

"I didn't disappear from the face of the Earth Sophie, you didn't bother finding me, and what are you doing here? I can never imagine seeing you in a place as remote as this."He told her and she smiled sadly.

"Am sorry....I was going through a lot I even forgot about myself, and this place is a nice place, just thought to come and spend the holidays with my Aunt" She said and pointed to Evelina

"You're pregnant" He stated

Sophie nodded.

"I came to register for my monthly checkup. It has been long since I had one" She told him

Dave nodded As he stared at her.

"Why?"

"Long story. Another time maybe"

Dave nodded again and collected the chart from the since silent nurse who had been staring at what has been going on all the while.

The nurse handed the chart to him and turned to leave.

Dave studied the chart and glanced up at her.

"Emmmm....So, you'll be coming here as regular as you can, make sure you don't miss out any of your monthly visits. We'll run a test for you now to check if everything is okay with you and your baby"

Sophie nodded her understanding and gave him a wide smile.

A week later.

Sophie hadn't heard from Marcus for days now. She had been trying his line but it was always switched off or ringing and he wouldn't pick up.

What could be wrong?

Or has something happened to him?

Has Brian or Stacy hurted him?

No! that can't be possible, nothing must happen to her Marcus!

"He isn't picking?"Evelina asked, concern also written all over her face too.

Sophie shook her head."He isn't"

"Do you think something is wrong....what if they've hurt him? What can I do" Sophie cried.

"Calm down Sophie, I'm sure he's Okay. Maybe he's too busy to pick your call"

"Marcus is never too busy to pick my calls. I've been calling him since Sunday and today Sunday again. I'm sure something is wrong"

"Where's Elliot?" Evelina asked

"I think he's sleeping" Sophie answered.

"Good, you can run along to his place now. If you take the Mercedes, it'll be an hour or two journey to his place,I'll stay here with Camille"

"Yeah..... I think I'll do that, before Elliot wakes up"

Evelina nodded and Sophie ran up the stairs to change into something more comfortable. She went downstairs minutes later and grabbed the keys from the shelf in the sitting room.

"Evelina, am off. I'll be back in few hours after I check if everything is Alright. If it isn't I'll call you" Sophie told Evelina who carried Camille in her arms.

Evelina nodded and bade her to leave.

"Drive safe and carefully, remember your condition okay?"

"Of course I will, Sophie said as she walked out if the house to the car, she was going to save him. Nothing must go wrong again. If she loosed anyone this time, she's likely to die, do she mustn't loose anyone. Not Marcus, Not Camille.

She got into the car, adjusting the sit so it could accommodate her and her big stomach, then started the engine and drove off.
