Eliza reincarnates herself into a new body and a new character.
She is a female rogue from the small village of Allaire. Her name is Leeta.
She started her journey in the year 3269 of the Imperial calendar.
She lives in the village and she spends most of her time in the local tavern.
Brown, frizzy hair almost fully covers a thin, anguished face. Hooded blue eyes, set handsomely within their sockets, watch carefully over the city they've come to appreciate for so long.
A tattoo resembling a dagger is prominently featured just above the side of his left eye leaving a grievous memory of his fortunate past.
This is the face of Bryan Wakeley, a true paladin among humans. He stands ordinary among others, despite his delicate frame.
There's something mystifying about him, perhaps it's his composure, or perhaps it's simply his unusual alliances. But nonetheless, people tend to welcome him with open arms, while treating him to a good meal when he's around.
The paladin is a member of the Imperial Guards, the powerful army that has ruled the Empire for so long. Whenever he can, he plays games, drinks ale, and eats hearty meals.
Leeta spends her time in the local tavern, drinking and eating with her friends. She is happy.
Then the Imperial calendar strikes the year 3302. The Emperor orders a massive culling of his people. The Imperial Guards are ordered to lead the attack against the humans.
Everyone knows the Emperor can't stand the idea of his people accepting help from the outside.
This is the reason for the attack, the Emperor orders it every year.
But this time is different, things are not as they seemed. The Imperial Guards refuse to attack innocent people. The attack against humanity is canceled.
Most people in the village of Allaire are excited. They think that now the Emperor will finally leave them alone. In fact, they think the Emperor will finally leave them alone, forever.
Leeta doesn't think so. The Emperor has always been able to read her thoughts.
He knows that not all people have been innocent, that some of them have actually deserved it.
The Emperor will not stop thinking that way. He will not stop doing what he thinks is right. He will not stop sending soldiers to slaughter the innocent.
She knows he will never stop doing any of those things. Still, she can't ignore this chance to live in peace.
She is Leeta, a female human rogue in the world of The Roaring. And she decides to rebel against the Emperor.
Her rebellion starts small, with just a few people willing to stand behind her. But her small band of rebels grows bigger and bigger. Finally, the day comes.
The rebels assaulted the castle of the Emperor.
They make their way toward the castle. There is a small army stationed at the front door. The palace has never been conquered.
The Emperor is always able to defend himself against any threat. Yet Leeta and her small band of rebels attack the castle anyway.
Their leader, Bryan Wakeley, is the first to reach the castle gates. He wields a long, wooden pole, the shaft of which has a large ball of pitch at the end.
As soon as he hits the doors, the thick, black substance oozes out. Within seconds, the doors are on fire.
Leeta laughs as she watches the doors burn. All the soldiers try to escape, but they don't even get half a step before the fire engulfs them.
The smell of flesh burning is overpowering. She gags and bends over, covering her nose, but still, the smell assaults her nostrils.
She forces herself to look away, to take a deep breath, to try to calm herself down.
She feels hot tears burning her eyes and her chest feels tight. Then she turns around.
The soldiers who were not burned are standing there, staring at her with fear. She is not sure what to do.
Should she try to kill them?
Should she attack them? Should she try to talk to them?
She has never been in a situation like this before.
Leeta takes a deep breath as if to calm herself down, but her body does not obey.
With a scream that only a human could produce, she charge at the soldiers. They turn around and run. She chases after them, screaming all the while.
"The god of death demands its pay!"
When she catches up to them, they are halfway through a nearby village.
She stops, panting.
She looks at the houses around her. The village is empty. Everything is empty. She is surrounded by ghosts.
She collapses to the ground, her lungs burning. She needs to catch her breath. She needs to sleep.
But she doesn't dare. The ghosts in this village still have the chance to get her.
Leeta gets up and tries to kill the soldier before escaping the ghost.
She runs towards the soldier, ready to kill him.
Yet no matter how close she gets, she can always see further.
This is her world.
She knows she can see every single inch of it.
This is her world.
She can see ghosts and monsters. She can see people like the ghost from her world that jumped out at her.
She can see how stupid that was. The world is full of dangers. She must survive. But she doesn't need to worry, because she has a weapon. The blade that makes her a rogue. She can kill any enemy with this blade.
She takes the sword into her hands and steps closer to the soldier. He doesn't even have time to react when she cut through his neck. His blood spills out and she steps back, letting go of the sword.
She hears a scream, but this time it isn't her. The soldier she just killed has a human partner in the village, named Ligru. He killed her would-be victim.
She hears his screams a few seconds later as the burning pitch fills his lungs. She doesn't have time to worry about that, though. The ghosts in the village are beginning to move towards her.
As She runs through the village, the ghosts seem to follow. She runs through houses and alleyways and watches the doors that lead to the outside close behind her.
They are trying to trap her.
They are trying to kill her.
They are trying to take what she has earned through her own grit and determination.
She runs and runs until she has no breath left, her legs feel like stone, and her ears feel like they are going to explode until she has no part of her body that isn't throbbing with pain.
Leeta starts a fire to burn every inch of the village and the ghosts inside of it.
She runs until her feet are bleeding and her legs feel like they are about to fall off until her heart feels like a swarm of angry bees.
She is spent.
She needs to rest. She needs to sleep. But she doesn't dare.
The burning village behind her beckons to her. It is calling to her, saying that it can provide security.
And the monsters inside beckon to her. She can feel their souls, calling to her, tempting her, asking for a joining.
She needs to rest. And she can only find rest by joining them. But they are dangerous. And they might kill her. It is a difficult decision, but one that she must make.
Does she find a place to rest for the night, or does she join the monsters?
Leeta decides to join the monsters.
She runs until she has no breath left and her legs feel like they are going to fall off until her heart feels like it is about to explode.
She is exhausted, and yet she presses on. The burning village beckons to her and she begins to imagine all the ways she could burn it down, all the people she could kill.
The villagers flee from her, and yet still she chases them, still, she keeps them in her sights.
She's not tired anymore. The chase has become a hunt.
It has become a battle.
She has become something that she is not. This is her world, and she has never felt so alive.
In the distance, she hears the clacking of a dead body. Maybe, just maybe, they have all escaped. It's going to be a long night.
She looks up to the stars and wonders what they are looking down upon. This is her world.
She can kill any enemy with this sword. She knows she can. She has fought many a beast and she has never been lost.
She feels invincible.
She feels like no matter how many times she is beaten, she will rise again.
She ascends to another realm of existence.
She enters the light.
She feels like she isn't even there.
She feels like a ghost in your own body. The pain is gone.
She feels like her soul has been set free.
The ghosts of the village called to her, but she can't answer their cries...
...because she is the cry.
She is the answer.
She is the solution.
They are illusions that can't touch her anymore, and neither can the monsters inside the village.
They can't hurt her. She is no longer afraid. But still, she feels a burning desire to answer their cries.
To complete the fight she started so long ago.
Does she ascend into the sky, and let her soul find its place among the stars?
Or will she plunge back into the hell of her own mind?
In the distance, the village burns.
Leeta decides to plunge back into the hell of her own mind.
Her soul has found its place among the stars, and yet she feels trapped. Trapped within hell.
She screams. She fights against it, she tries to break free, but she is held here, as surely as if chains were holding her down.
The nightmares plague her and the voices are filled with fear and anger.
She can feel the villagers calling to her, but she just can't answer. She is bound to this realm.
She feels like she is falling through a void, and there is nothing but darkness below her. There are voices calling to her, but she can't make out any of the words they are saying.
She is going to fall through this void forever and ever and a million nightmares will haunt her forevermore. And then, suddenly, everything is still. The void is gone. And so are the nightmares. And the voices, they are gone too.
It is quiet. She is home.
She feels like she is breathing again. She is floating. And she is content.
She feels the pain in her chest subside, she feels the burning desire to follow the call of the villagers fade away, and she feels her freedom become a reality.
She feels content. She has been set free.
And though the void still lingers, she feels like now she can truly move on with her life.
The nightmares are gone.
She is free.
She's home.
She can finally answer the call of the villagers.
She rises into the sky and moves among the stars.
She have finally found peace.
