14. Adeline and her mission

****

Reuven had not looked at Adeline more than once as he walked into the cave inside of the stream. The same thing Reuven had done the pack did as they all walked into the cave in the stream.

The cave in the stream appeared to be home for the werewolves since they started to hide from the public. This was because the cave in the stream could not be easily detected because of the water that flowed down from the cliff in the mountain and also because the cave was cooler and larger and filled with life and greeneries than the dry cave that paved the entrance into the bottomless part of the mountain.

Adeline had fastened her bath. It was more like she sat in the water for a couple of minutes before she rose up and put on her suit.

When she was done. A little thought ran through her mind. This thought was also backed up with a question which was if she must go now outside of the cave or be among them until the sun goes down?

But she had not arrived at an answer. She wondered what was going to happen if she went into the cave since she was not invited.

This caused Adeline to study the cave more and try her best to understand the environment. What she did at this moment was that she sat beside the waters and watched what they were doing in the cave even when she had not been able to see everything.

First, she saw how everything had been done in a manner of hierarchy. This was a common thing for werewolves that each of them looked different from the other. This indeed meant that each look of a werewolf means a rank in the pack. Such was the Zeta wolf as the king of warriors. He mostly acts alone and only yields to the command of the alpha.

There were also the Beta wolves who were next in rank to the Zeta wolf. And others included the omega and the gemma wolves.

But Adeline had not known this. All she studied too quickly about them was they worked in order and some members of the packs are humble to other members of the packs.

There was not a thing of such in the vampire's coven. Aside from the Elders whom all the vampires including the turns must salute and be humble towards, the originals who were Cyrus and herself have not had any respect for one another.

Things that were certain with them were only that the turns respect them and listen to their instructions and the elders do have a favourite between Cyrus and her.

The more she stared into the cave, she could also tell that there were no females in the cave. They were all men with long beards underneath their jaws. This Adeline had not been able to fathom because, in a normal society, there shall always be a combination of both genders: the male and the female, but here, there is no such thing as men in animal skin coats all through.

[Foot step approaching]

Adeline quickly shot her gaze to what she heard coming to her. It was the Alpha who looked more relaxed than how he had looked before.

Only for this, Adeline had not been sure of what to think. Could it be that he has come to send her away even when the Sun still fixed his stare beneath on earth, or, he has come to welcome her to stay until she pleases?

"You must be hungry", Reuven said.

"I brought you something." He confessed.

Reuven uncovered his left hand which he before blocked with his right hand and lo and behold, it was a jar of blood.

But Adeline felt withdrawn from accepting his kind gesture.

"I don't drink humans" She quickly confessed, shooting her gaze away.

But no matter how quickly she shot her stare into another direction, her eyes turned raven and indeed her fang grew. The blood drew her and she struggled not to accept the jar.

Reuven still waited. "Why do you not drink humans?" He asked quite very gently as he seated beside her and exchanged the jar to his right hand which was closer to Adeline.

Not that Reuven had done this purposely, he had not known Adeline struggled not to drink the blood of the human but he knows she was struggling not to turn into the monster that looks so scary. He thinks she was mindful not to scare him.

"Relax girl, you don't have to be scared of what you may look like in here. We are not scared of your dog teeth or your raven eyes, nor your claws. We look worse when we shapeshift. " Reuven chuckled.

The rest of the pack peeped at every event from inside the cave but pretended not to be looking. It was not that if they were caught starting there was a punishment for them but they were meant to be working to prepare dinner and being carried away was what would infuriate the alpha.

Adeline still looked away. She would not accept the jar and indeed still struggled against drinking the blood.

Each time she was drawn against her will by the aroma of the blood to turned around and gulp it down below to her stomach, but she forcibly turned away.

"Take it away from me." She shouted at Reuven and when he had not listened, she blurred away quickly into another corner of the mountain, such that she would not be able to drink what she was offered.

Reuven could still see her though. "But this is not human blood," He confessed.

His confession brought Adeline quickly back to him in a blink of an eye as she sniffed the brim of the jar before she would drink.

"What? You think I am lying?" Reuven questioned when he saw what she was doing before she gulped the blood at once, demanding more.

For Adeline, and peculiar to all vampires, just by sniffing the blood, they could tell if the blood was of humans or animals. They could even tell the blood group and if the blood was infected.

Even so, they drink all blood groups, it wouldn't affect them or anything more.

"Werewolves don't eat humans like you and your kind…"

"I don't eat humans" Adeline interrupted before Reuven could complete his words.

"Well… we eat animals and this blood is collected from the cattle my family just hunted." Reuven convinced.

"So, tell me, why don't you eat humans like the rest of your kind?" Reuven asked again.

The longer he waited for Adeline to move her lips and words to come out of her mouth, the more she only remained mute and continued drinking the jar of blood that was brought to her.

This has not made Reuven angry, he was only convinced to ask more questions.

"The witch you mentioned earlier. You said something about a curse and you headed to her to lift the curse on you?"
