20. Reuven and the Spy Wolf

Everything that happened to Adeline, Winifred witnessed as he continued spying on her from a long distance because he knew she would be able to detect any of his slightest sounds or silly mistakes.

It was also true that for him to be able to get a good sight, he shapeshifted from his human form and became a wolf as he remained spying on the girl.

He was then convinced that the bloodsucker had nothing against the werewolves. All she wanted was for the sake of herself. But he could not still be certain. As the order remained, he must fulfil.

When Adeline battled with a strange creature, he ghosted in a tree with enough branches to cover him and not even his breath made a silent sound. Winifred was a major spy wolf who Reuven had trusted for his discreteness.

But even Winifred was a member of the very bottom-ranked wolves. He was an omega wolf aside from being a spy wolf.

It was true that the characteristics of the Omega wolves were that of a scapegoat. They live on the outskirts of the pack, they are usually eating last. They also serve as both a stress-reliever and instigators of play.

But In the greenery cave, things were a bit different. The Omega wolves will not be authorised to enter the cave as every other werewolf except they have been given the direct invitation. This was strictly by Rueven's rule and cannot be breached.

When the Omega wolves have not been invited into the greenery, they must stand guard at the entrance of the greenery and others at the entrance of the dry cave. For any unauthorised movement, they must report.

In this strength, the Omega wolves were the weakest and the smallest in size even when they shapeshifted. They are easily intimidated by the higher-ranking wolves even by the Gamma wolves.

At every hit against Adeline, Winifred had frozen as if the monster had punched him in the face. But at that, he made sure his cowardice had not exposed him.

When the creature opened fire on Adeline from its mouth and Adeline had seized an opportunity to flee, he also jumped out of the tree and raced in the direction Adeline had sped.

Truly, Winifred had not been as fast as Adeline and he could not be very sure of the direction the bloodsucker had run each time she switched it. But her scent had been traceable and that had helped him follow her path.

The witch of the hunt also knew all of these and she would only express her wicked laughter. This did not mean the werewolf had heard her because only Adeline who had access to the book could hear the witch.

This also meant that the creature had not seen the werewolf. Even if they passed beside him or faced him directly, they could not see him because the witch was only linked to the vampire and the creatures were only linked to the witch.

But the werewolf had not known this. He could see the creature but he did not know the creature cannot see him and he best avoided them.

Adeline was punched in the face by another creature different from the one who faced her earlier, as Winifred saw this, he quickly hid in the tree hollow hoping that he would not be seen.

But his hope had shrunk worse into doubt and indeed he became shocked when Adeline tumbled at his front from the impact of the heavily weighted punch to her face.

Though Adeline had not seen him nor perceived him or detected his heartbeat with her super hearing aid. She had been distracted by the monster she faced. At this time, Winifred quickly escaped from the tree hollow and ran further back until he encountered another creature which had before attacked Adeline.

He did not know what else to do. It seemed as though the monster had seen him and was advancing against him. So, he sped away. But the monster had not chased after him which had him into the confusion about what just happened to him.

He was then smart to quickly think that perhaps the monsters were not after him. At least, he had done nothing to provoke them and the vampire was only what they dealt with.

This had him finally breathing normally as he stood still and watched Adeline fight for her life.

Though his fears had been conquered, he had not let Adeline notice a glimpse of him even though it had remained a tiny bit for his mission to fail when Adeline fell before him earlier.

He made sure to hide thus well in the darkness and also in the tree that complimented his dark wolf because when his mission failed, he knew what judgement awaited him back in the greenery.

He wondered if there was a nation of these monsters somewhere else as from where he hid, he noticed some strange movement crumbling the trees and their branches from an opposite direction thus far from him.

It was more shocking because what disturbed these trees could not be seen nor was he able to hear its sound. The only thing he could see was the trees getting disturbed by a powerful movement.

He looked back down to the ground where Adeline was supposed to be, fighting back with the two monsters who were already attacking her. But to his surprise, he could hardly recognise Adeline because he saw two vampires who looked exactly the same attacking each other.

What gave the monster vampire away for Winifred to be able to detect was its quicker speed than the real vampire. Each time she threw her punches, Adeline could not see them and they landed in her stomach or on her face as the monster vampire had intended.

Now, when Adeline was thrown to the ground for the fifth time, the two monsters stopped only for a magnificent reptile to reveal itself in a glimpse and vanished again almost immediately.

Winifred saw this and indeed laid quieter in his hideout to see what was going to happen at this time.
