Carter hoped that the guards would be unconscious long enough for him to find Celia, or at least for the police to arrive. They were taking forever, so he ducked into a room and took out his cell phone.


“Blake, I am in a situation where I need immediate assistance,” Carter said as soon as his assistant, Blake, answered the phone. “Someone has been kidnapped and I need to rescue them, but there are three or more guards around here. I’ve called the police but they’re not on the scene yet. Please send me some reliable backup, then call the police and make sure they get here soon.”


Carter ended the call and sent Blake his location. He then moved on in the direction of the terrace, where another guard was patrolling. He approached the guard stealthily from behind and grabbed him by the waist while covering his mouth so that he wouldn’t scream.
