Mr. CEO's Touching Words

Throughout the car ride, the old man talked to Evelyn softly, trying to ease her nerves. She had to admit that she appreciated and felt touched by the effort, but it did very little to soothe the uneasiness.

Even though she was welcomed by him, what about the rest of his family members? They shouldn't be fine with a stranger suddenly coming to live with them. There was a Landon as well.

Despite being nice, it couldn't be that Landon w as s willing to be tied to her. The boy was so outstanding, and then, there was her— way below the average.

Every glance at Landon only made her self-esteem go lower. However, at the same, a tiny hope of what if bloomed in her chest, spreading its roots more gradually.

The car stopped in front of the mansion, and Evelyn entered. Her bag was taken away by the housekeeper, and Landon has been ordered by his grandfather to show her around.

Although he maintained a nonchalant attitude, he introduced Evelyn to every corner of the mansion slowly and let her have a good look. His tone was pleasant as well— gentle with no hint of impatience.

It only got her to drool over him more.

Once the tour was over, she was led to her room, and that's when, her eyes fell on Landon's back as the boy walked to leave. Feeling the guilt overwhelm her, she opened her mouth.

"I am sorry. I am sure it should be unpleasant to have someone like me forced upon you. If you want, I can talk to Mr. Parker about it, and I can even leave if you don't want me here. I completely understand. After all, who would be happy to get engaged to a total stranger?"

Especially when one was as unremarkable as her.

At this, he turned back to face her and question, "Does this displease you?"

Does it? Of course not! She was totally over the moon at the arrangement.

She shook her head before hesitantly adding, "But it's not the same. You deserve someone better."

Her voice turned softer at the end due to letting out about her insecurity, and she turned her head away nervously.

"No one is better. Stop thinking too much."

With those words, he left, leaving Evelyn to deal with her rapid heartbeats. He is really bad for the condition of her heart.

At the same time, a wide grin formed on her face while she happily skipped to her room.

Although she didn't deserve him, she still wished to be greedy. This led her to make a promise to herself.

I will become better for the sake of you.

°°°

Be better for his sake?

She sure did try like a fucking loser.

Evelyn's forehead hit against a strong back, and the momentum caused her to take a step back. She glared at the back in front of her.

Because of returning here, all the old memories replayed in her mind, making her feel completely pathetic. And it made her want to beat up this cold-hearted bastard in front of her.

He turned back to look at her, and this only made her look at him as though she was ready to pounce on him any second, tearing that neck of his next.

She really hated him too much.

"It is unsightly," he commented.

"Leave me alone if I am embarrassing," she threw back at him.

"Stop creating trouble. You are old enough now." His tone showed dissatisfaction.

It was funny how only three years back, him talking to her like this would have made her cry, but now, it only brought her excitement to trouble him.

It would be better for her if he felt dissatisfaction towards her.

"I don't listen to you anymore," she pointed out.

Instead of feeling proud of herself for saying that, it only made her feel gloomy. She was too obedient to him before only to receive nothing at the end.

Why did she do it? For the sake of slight humanity he showed to her?

She was too hungry for affections, wasn't she?

"I will go on my own. Give me the location. It's already bad enough I had to tolerate you for over twenty four hours. I will get sick if it continues."

There was determination in her gaze.

He sighed.

Did he look distressed? Or was it an illusion Evelyn had because that is how she wanted him to feel?

"You won't be able to find it on your own."

That got her blood boiling.

Right, she couldn't. Whose fault was it?

Back then, she should have really killed off this bastard!
