Chapter 8: Hiding

Asa POV:

People could say many things about Asa.

The young shifter seemed naive, idealistic, optimistic to a fault.

But Asa would never be stupid, and no one could ever say that about him. Asa could see when things were off, and things were definitely off since they traveled to this new house three days ago.

Chris had a secret.

He wanted to trust the elder shifter, because he’d never given him any reason not to but—

Moving quickly and bringing no possessions other than clothes that Asa could carry didn’t scream trustworthy.

In fact, it screamed secrets and shame.

Asa didn’t know what to do with the thought.

Those cursed words overshadowed Asa’s want to ask Chris about the move.

‘Trust me.’

Why did he have to say those words above all others?

Why couldn’t he have said ‘do as I say,’

‘Because I said so’

‘Just do it’

Anything else besides ‘trust me’.

‘Trust me’ relied on their bond, relied on their mating.
