On the first Full moon of March, when the moon is at its highest peak, all unmated shifters must run into the woods from the Maverick and Sweetwater packs in search of a mate. Shifters chase down their fated mate and claim them under the moonlight.

For Asa, the run is the day he has been looking forward to all of his life. He is excited to be mated until an unfortunate encounter at the edge of the woods pushes him into peril. His life has turned upside down as he faces something he never thought he would, an injury and two shifters who want him. 

Chris didn't look forward to the run. As his last run, thankfully, he could finally melt back into obscurity. He just wants to make sure he gets out of the woods, unattached, and gets on with his life until he catches a light Lilac scent. Suddenly, he finds himself falling head over heels for his mate. His only goal now is to protect Asa, no matter what.

THE CHASE

Asa turned away from Chris, opening their bedroom door and Chris followed on instinct.


Something pulled him towards Asa, he couldn’t resist if he tried. Not that he ever wanted to try again. 


He never wanted to leave Asa’s side again. 


“Come and get me,” Asa said softly before sprinting out of the back door and toward the woods. 


He listened as Asa’s bare feet swished through the grass. The night hummed with the sound of cicadas and twigs snapping under Asa’s feet; it sounded like a symphony. The still night promised danger, promised predation.


But the night moved around them, the ambient noises a melody. Something about the whole world singing moved Chris. It felt like the world sang specifically of their love. 


Asa zigzagged, running with a power that sent elation through Chris’ core. It reminded Chris of the beginning, how it should have gone, not how it went.
