On the first Full moon of March, when the moon is at its highest peak, all unmated shifters must run into the woods from the Maverick and Sweetwater packs in search of a mate. Shifters chase down their fated mate and claim them under the moonlight.

For Asa, the run is the day he has been looking forward to all of his life. He is excited to be mated until an unfortunate encounter at the edge of the woods pushes him into peril. His life has turned upside down as he faces something he never thought he would, an injury and two shifters who want him. 

Chris didn't look forward to the run. As his last run, thankfully, he could finally melt back into obscurity. He just wants to make sure he gets out of the woods, unattached, and gets on with his life until he catches a light Lilac scent. Suddenly, he finds himself falling head over heels for his mate. His only goal now is to protect Asa, no matter what.

THE CHASE

Chris sat at the head of the table with the other council members. As the pack’s last alpha, Asa’s mother sat at his left. He had a lot to learn from her, but things would turn out okay. 


“Now that you are the leader of our pack, you will be in charge of many of the aspects of our pack. One of your primary duties is safety of the pack. As you remember from your youth, we have groups that run the perimeter of the territory,” The councilman said. He was the alpha before Asa’s mother. 


Chris remembered the perimeter runs. The year before his eligibility  to run in the mating run, Chris ran perimeter. He’d signed up for the duty . 


He’d always prized loyalty in the pack, and he did whatever he could to make it better. At least he wouldn’t lose that aspect of himself.


“Now, it will be different than when you were younger. Instead of running every night, once a night, you’ll be overseeing shifts,” He explained and Chris nodded.
