Chris’ POV:
Chris led Asa back to the house wordlessly.
In all honesty, Chris couldn’t truly vocalize how he felt.
He knew that whatever happened tomorrow, it wouldn't compare to this moment tonight.
He almost lost Asa.
He almost lost Asa because his mate didn’t want to lose friends and family.
Chris understood Asa’s urge.
He’d felt it as well, just underneath the surface.
He worried about what would befall the pack, who would they lose.
He wondered why he and Asa had to do it at all.
Why couldn’t they run away, let everything fall on someone else’s shoulders.
Ultimately, he knew that he couldn’t think like that.
He could only think in the present.
Whatever happened tomorrow did not belong in their hands.
Chis held Asa close to him as they fell onto their bed.
Asa’s body molded itself perfectly against Chris’. They pressed tightly together, as if trying to erase the boundaries between where Chris ended and Asa began.
