Chapter 32: Cost of Victory

“Assar!” she screamed as she ran over to where he lay crushed under the bulk of the monster.

She gripped the monster's flank, and with a scream of effort, pulled the enormous beast off the hunter.

“Oh, gods!” She gasped as she took in the broken form of her companion. He was covered from head to foot in both red and green blood. His clothes and armor were torn to shred, and she could see his numerous wounds from the fight. She even saw bone exposed in some spots. His face was deathly pale, and his eyes were losing all color.

She hastily felt for a pulse, and somehow miraculously it was there. It was weak, but it was still there. She had no idea what he had drank, but whatever it was, had increased his healing factor far beyond even hers. It seemed to be wearing off though. She needed to feed him more of whatever it was he had drunk. It was the only chance for him to survive this amount of trauma.
