Chapter 49: Flutter Your Wings? (I)

TWO MONTHS LATER

"How is life in the Michigan estate?" This is from Camila, her voice a high-pitched crow. It's a surprise my earphones don't catch fire with the effect. "Holy hell, that's his bed, right? And it's lined with. . . gold."

Simone leans in with a gasp. "Holy hell, indeed," she mutters.

"And you're naked."

"What? No, I'm not naked. It's Jason's shirt. Keeps slipping off because it's so bloody big."

They give me meaningful looks. "So you were naked. Before."

"Yo, stop this. And I've not had time to look around. I've been busy."

Another round of meaningful stares from their individual laptops. "You hoe."

"No!" I burst out laughing. "Y'all are so dirty. I'm working on my application letter. I'm ready to admit that I want to return to school."

The screen seems to freeze. And then breaks as the girls release a round of cheers. I never thought I'd ever be close to Camila, but after her second visit to Beachbay, we finally had the chance to connect.
