Tick tock. Tick tock.
The sounds of the big wall clock along the hallway were resonating. The four walls are painted in a classy white color and designed with all gold furniture. I brought myself towards the nearby area to get some fresh air.
Standing on the balcony, I scanned my eyes throughout its surroundings. The enormous lawn reflects its greenish colors everywhere. The water sprinklers were dancing as it was watering the fine grassland everywhere. Not to mention the nearby trees that were dancing along with the forces of the winds.
I released a big sigh as I realized how far I have attained in life right now. It has been a year and yet here I am still stuck in the past. "Ah, how I wish I was never been me," I muttered. I sipped through my wine glass while remembering all those moments I have gone through.
"Hmm." My eyes instantly searched the familiar manly voice. "I see, you were here all along. My people were searching for you everywhere Elisa." he started in a mocking voice.
I angrily faced the derisive man! Walking slowly towards his place, I snapped, "Don't you dare call me that! You have always known Mateo, what that freaking name did to me! You knew!" Leering into his eyes without breaking any contact. Might it be that it will go through his thick head that I was never that girl again.
He chuckled. His hands were lifted up as if it was wiping something on my small face. I never minded that, who would?! I need to teach him a lesson.
He chuckled?! The intensity in my eyes was blazing already. How dare he?!
"You look butthurt, mi amore. And what do you think your patience will take you to? A little mockery instantly flared you up, what about when you see you're supposed to be family to be happy knowing you are already gone?" My face softened, as I release my eyes through his contact. It has been like we've been swapped. He is now the angry one, the clenching of his jaw is visible as the light was also illuminating his physical features.
"And funny thing, you're crying," he said scoffingly as he put down his hands from my face.
I was left speechless. I instantly checked my face if he was right, and yes he is. The wetness of my face was felt with the mixture of my sweat. How did I never feel them dropping, I asked myself. And yes he was clearly right, after all the training I had just been the new version of myself is wasted with Mateo's little insults. "I-I am sorry, I never wanted to do that. I was surprised by your words and you were the one who started it." I half-heartedly said.
"No, I am not. I see the way it still affects you. You didn't forget him yet, I see." He was watching me closely, in every emphasized word he said he was watching my reaction.
"Who am I to forget everything? And no, I don't love him anymore, the pain he gave me still lingers in my mind and heart. I believe that is reasonable enough for me to forget that asshat." I retorted back. Honestly, it was never been an easy journey for me. The memories are still fresh despite the years that have passed. I was never been the sassy as I am today, I am the exact opposite of it and I am proud of that. It is just despite all the goodness you will give to the people you love, there are still possibilities for them to break your trust and dismiss you in their life. And I was one of that unlucky girls.
FLASHBACK.
A soft knock in my room distracted me from the book I am reading. "Miss Elisa, your father asked for your presence at the dining table. They are waiting for your arrival now." said our head housemaid as she was already gone back to her station.
While listening to her announcement, I replied with a single yes and dismissed her by nodding my head. I lifted up my body from the queen-sized bed I was tucked in. Standing up I simply run through my hands to my brown dress creases. I was thinking of changing but I am guessing this will only be a normal day for us so I never bothered. Before going out I was able to check my reflection through an enormous mirror inside my room.
"Well, don't you just look so average, girl? I laughed as I was literally feeling myself while twirling around admiring the dress I am wearing. Honestly, I don't look bad for a normal person, I have qualities that can make me a supermodel to start off. My face was the spitting image of my mom that was previously a beauty queen while my bush brows came from my father. My cherry red pouty lips were to die for, and my tall thin nose complimented my fair skin. Thanks to my parent's genes I was able to be born naturally.
As I trotted down the long stairs we have, I could hear all the familiar laughter in our dining area. I am sure they are complete. Is it just me or sometimes life will drown you. In my whole 18 years living in this world, it has never been easy. Yes, I admit we are quite big in the industry and we own a lot of properties to be made of. But it will never be enough for a family to be happy. And if you are one of the unlucky people who have been experiencing the shits of the world then I pity you, we're on the same boat.
"What took you so long, young lady? my father asked clearly losing his laughing face when I was not currently present at the dining table.
One of the maids pulled me a chair and made me sit comfortably with my family. If you are in my shoes I am sure it is hella awkward. I keep my mouth shut because I know where this will be going again. The loud silence was surrounding the table around us. I never bother to ask for help from my mother, she always just ignore my presence even though she can defend me she chose to stay mum about everything.
"Do you even think how many minutes we have been waiting for you to come down to your room? Is that even a lady-like action to begin with Elisa?" slowly my father's tone is rising up. He is clearly mad at everything I do.
"Ahem, Erwan I think it is time for us to eat, the food is already cold." Finally! Mother butted in, she must have been hungry from all of their jokings and moments. What a perfect family.
I know you are wondering why am I acting like a spoiled brat, but I was once close with my parents not until I didn't do what they want me to do. Well, if it was easy I am open to everything they tell me, but the difference is their favor will surely change my life and I cant just be a slave for that. I would never imagine myself being in that situation. That was the start of my perfect connection with everyone and poofed we are slowly drifting away.
"Next time, be on time. You just always waste our time waiting for your butt, Elisa. Take this as a warning, young lady." No one said anything, although we are quite a few here there were no talking mouths to be heard.
"Yes, father," I said while my hands that are under the table are fidgeting endlessly. I wasn't really known to this kind of conversation but it just quite sting as they were just laughing a while ago and now with my presence here they were now wearing their scowling faces. What a night huh?
The whole dinner was just hard to swallow. They are literally just in front of me and yet I feel they are so far to reach. In other words, I totally feel like an outcast in my own family. After everything, I decided for myself to go back to my room silently.
"Mother, Father, I will now be back at my room." I silently muttered as I cut off their conversation. The two didn't look at me as if they have not heard anything. I released a big sigh. It seems that their hatred for me runs too deep to the point of neglecting me.
"Elisa." A soft voice called me as I was about to enter my room.
"Erisa," I answered. You must be confused right now. This is my perfect sister. Erisa is the favorite and well-favored of both my parents. Well, it is not to doubt, she clearly is the better version of me. We are twins actually, we were born on the same day in the same womb.
"Are you okay? I am sorry for not standing up with you earlier." her face was sad. I mean I can clearly see my own face in hers too, it was doing some puppy eyes that might be effective to the others but not to me.
"Huh, I'm shocked you even asked me right now when everything has been done. Thanks for that concern sister." I half-heartedly smile at her while opening up my door to immediately get inside my room.
"Never again be fooled by that sympathetic attitude," I said to myself as I was leaning behind the door.
