"Well, well. If it isn't the pauper and her buddy slave." Comes an annoying voice from behind us and I sigh, feeling a cat fight coming up.
I turn and an annoying face comes into view. Well-shaped lips, high cheekbones and long luscious hair, yes. That was an ugly face because it came from my past and might as well define my future.
Alina Sparks.
A rising star in the entertainment industry, Alina had starred in a lot of television commercials, movies and she also had a lot of endorsements to her name spreading her name all over the country and possibly the world. She is the epitome beauty and elegance. Her only problem was her lose ways. She was known to be a callet and it was an open secret. Funny enough in all of high society, she took me as a rival yet she wasn't even the dust beneath my feet.
'And I am only seventeen. Maybe therefore she lusted after Adrian. I wonder why I even feared her.' I think as I look at her like the trash she is.
Me, Ale and mother had gone to the boutique to grab a few gifts for all the guys at home when an expected variant to our lives popped up. She is a pest from my past life and I had rather not meet her ever again. Good thing mother had gone to look for a scarf for father otherwise, there's no thinking what would happen.
"To think that she would come and torture me in this life as well." I think as I grimace.
"Alina Sparks. What do you want?" Ale asks as he pulls me behind me. Why was he doing that?
"Ah, the loyal Prim-Rose dog. How predictable! To think that you would lick at your master's feet like this. Truly disgusting." she retorts with an upturned nose and I feel my blood pressure rise.
"At least I don't bite the hand that feeds me." Ale retorts and I feel my chest constrict.
Ale is my brother, best friend and partner in crime. Whenever people call him a lackey of the Prim-Roses just because he stuck close to me, I would feel terrible about it. Compared to me and Adrew, my relationship with Ale is closer than most people think. Undermining him, calling him a dog no less, is just opening up war. As we were in a famous boutique that most socialites flocked, I had to be careful with what I said and how I acted.
"You would think that a blue blood would act better and distinguish between servant and friend. Just what were you thinking, Miss Prim-Rose?" she taunts once more. Oh, someone hold my earrings because it's about to get ugly.
"I would watch my back if I were you, miss Sparks. After all, anything can happen in the blink of an eye." I say causing Alina to flinch and shudder. I can tell what she is thinking as this is not what she was expecting from provoking a seventeen-year-old. Well, she is in for a big surprise.
"What is this? Do the children of the Prim-Rose family go around threatening people?" asks one girl on Alina's side in a louder than usual voice trying to get people's attention and I watch on in amusement. This person belonged to a branch family and had no power of her own. No wonder she clings to dirt like Alina.
The old me would probably scream right now causing a scene here but that would only play favorable for her and not me.
'Let me show you what it means to be a true blue blood.'
"Oh, are you questioning ages of true aristocratic blood of the Prim-Rose family, miss Sparks? That would be akin to questioning the upbringing of all the other families as we all do share a thing or two." I say with a smirk hanging off the corner of my lips.
Ale has a shocked look on his face, same with all the other noble ladies. Of course, they should. Andrena Prim-Rose was always acting like a spoilt brat right before she turned twenty. They were all expecting me to whine, cry and throw my hands up.
'Well, I won't. Take that past!' I think in my head as I walk past all the drama with Ale right behind me. I paused only for half a beat and turned to Ale.
"By the way, he is no dog. He is my big brother and a young master of the Prim-Rose family. It would be in your best interests to remember that. Otherwise, I really can't tell just what my family would do when this gets to their ears. We are rather protective of our own Miss Sparks." I say as I stare at Ale.
He looked dejected like an abandoned puppy. I didn't like that my best friend was being treated like an extra in my story where I get to decide the rules. Linking our arms together, I dragged him off to the boys' section and got him some clothes.
"You are my best friend and brother. Either we are equal or we are equal. Nothing any less than that. So the next time someone tries to cause you trouble, just shout and I will come running to you." I tell him as we strut towards the suit section and I hear a sniffle. Quickly, Ale disappears behind one curtain as he enters a changing room and probably cries his eyes out.
'My big baby of a brother.' I utter as I look at the clothing catalogs for winter. It had gotten colder and a few of the family members have always suffered in the cold.
"Hmm, a few jackets and scarfs shouldn't hurt my pockets so much. Let me find something for father and grandma. Those nice uncles too." I mumble as I peruse through a catalog.
Two suits catch my eye as they remind me of a certain duo. One was midnight black while the other was pearl white. They both had intricate designs and little details that seemed to tell a tall tale.
"You seem taken by the two suits, miss." Says a lady who immediately takes my attention off the catalog.
"Why yes, of course. The detail and design of these two is simply artful. I feel like the designer was trying to convey something with the two pieces seeing how they are almost the same thing." I answer excitedly. These two suits were more than just clothes. They seemed to hold a bunch of secrets.
"Don't mind her, miss Selene. She knows nothing of fashion or art. She is uneducated and unlearnt. She is just mumbling away." Comes a voice and I can't help but look to the sky.
"Why are flies bothering me so much today?" I say loud enough for a few snickers to erupt. This day really wasn't mine.
"Who are you calling a fly, you maggot!" she replies in a shout and I face her tiredly as I have no energy to deal with such people.
I recognized her as she was from some family that had recently risen to power through a political marriage. Sigh, such things still happen even today. Pitiful!
"I couldn't agree more, Miss Prim-Rose. Flies shouldn't hover around and pollute the air." Says Selene and I am shocked. Why you must be wondering. Well, she is THE Icy Artist.
Hailing from a family with a deep heritage with art, Selene Frost had ushered her family into a new era by stepping into the clothing industry. She incorporated her art into clothes and it was a big hit. Her family is probably among the top ten in society. Another reason for her fame was her personality. She really deserves the name Icy Artist.
Probably because of embarrassment, the fly made a hasty escape.
"I really want to as some parents how they raise their children. Such a pain and a nuisance!" says Selene and I couldn't agree anymore.
"Yes indeed. Such a bother." I add and I look to the catalog again. The two suits were really tempting me and I felt the need to make the purchase.
'Is this the infamous impulsive shopping at work?' I think as I stare more at the suits.
"I see both Adrew and Lewis wearing such master pieces and actually pulling them off. I had better get them."
"You want to purchase the suits?" Selene asks and I am a little startled as I didn't think that she was still standing close to me.
"Yes, I do. These are such beautiful pieces." I say as I squeal in delight.
'Pack them up for her.' She orders and I realize she is the owner of this store.
"I would like to know why you like the two suits when they are clearly for men but I have a prior arrangement. Take them as a first meeting gift." She says as she walks away and I am in awe.
I just spoke to the Selene Frost and we might have become friends! I was squealing in delight.
After calming down, I picked a few more things and walked around as I waited for Ale to be done with his fittings when a dress caught my eye. It shone like the stars and had delicate details on it, almost looking like it was woven from silk.
As it was in another store, I excused myself and headed into the store to have a better look at the dress but I instead found a lot more.
