Travis

The man sits her down on a chair and closes the door behind him. She sits there anxiously as she dreads what is coming next , she doesn’t know what is about to happen. She observes him as he walks over to sit on his desk.

“Why are you here” the man’s voice is loud and sharp such that she feels it vibrate through her. “I Came here to apply for a job” she replies in the softest way possible her voice barely audible .

“Well I have a proposition for you right here , right now” the man says staring straight at her, his eyes not leaving her.

She has nothing to do but to nervously stare at her feet as he speaks.

“I want you to be my wife” he says looking straight at her. She slowly looks up at him and stares at him dumbfounded the revelation shocking her to her core.

“Wha…t “ she asks handing her a big yellow envelop.

“Take it, read it and get back to me in three days” he demands to the girl.

She sits there contemplating weather or not she should leave. The man goes back to reading the paper on his desk. “Close the door on your way out” he says barely looking up from his desk.

Carissa takes her bag and leaves his office , looking as confused as ever, she leaves the building.

The envelop feels heavy in her hands as she walks out. She feels as though her world is crushing down on her. She feels the weight the yellow envelop carries as she hurriedly gets out of the building.

Not feeling like being stuck in the tiny apartment Carissa opted to go to the park. After all a little sun could do her really good, she needed the fresh air.

As she made her way into the entrance of the park she looked for a good spot to sit down , to get some air or so. She got excited when she saw a spot near a tree next to an old lady who had a dog with her.

Carissa struggled with her work skirt adjusting it properly so she could sit on the grass and get a sense of being an feeling free. She had never done this and although the sight of so many people gathered in one place made her terribly anxious she was willing to do it.

She carefully placed the yellow envelop next to her, careful not to wrinkle it. She just hated it when that happened. Choosing a comfortable way to lay down , she hoped she was not flashing anyone with the tight skirt she was wearing.

She looked up to the sky, breathing in and out. As much as she loved her tiny apartment she had to admit . It was so small that it made her feel lonely if that even made sense.

“Can I join you” she hears a mans voice preppy and excited. Not feeling like being around anyone right now she got ready to leave taking her envelop in her hand. “Oh no , I didn’t mean to be rude, sorry if I came a cross as a little creepy” the man says with smile accompanied by deep dimples.

“Stay, please. I wanted to join you cause you look a little in distress right now , so I thought why not” he says.

Still not having had said a word , she observes him for a while. Why not just try she convinced herself in the inside.

“ I’m Travis by the way” the dimpled man says offering her a hand to take. “Carissa takes the man’s hand “ I am Carissa nice to meet you” she utters and panics at the thought of that she sounds rather abnormal. The words she chose to say why those she scolds herself.

“So let’s sit down” the man suggests as he folds himself to a cross legged position. She does what the man says as she sits down on the grass placing everything neatly next to her. “That envelop looks really important?” he asks her pointing to it.

“Well I haven’t opened it yet, so I don’t know what is in it yet” the girl says feeling nervous.

“ If it is an envelop for a job offer or something you probably got it”he says.

‘How could you be so sure” She asks unsure of what the stranger is hoping to establish.

“Well , I just know it” he beams at her wide teeth and all.

The girl stops for a moment unsure of what to say to Travis. “Thank you, I guess” she says.

“Where do you live” he asks her . “Well it’s not too far from here”. She replies. She doesn’t trust strangers not ones who ask you right away where you live. “What are doing here” he asks her.

Carissa feels rather uncomfortable in the presence of the stranger who keeps on asking her question so she decides to get up and leave.

“I have to go” she says taking all her things and standing up.

“Wait , he tries to say but she is already off.

She rushes out of the park, she doesn’t the feeling being here is making her feel. Much less the fact that a stranger came up to her. It has been long since she’s had a conversation with anyone and she doesn’t really feel like it too.

She walks the distance to her apartment, She quickly gets in and locks the door just in case the stranger has followed her all the way to her apartment. She puts her bags on the table and she sits down registering what just happened to her. Washing her face in the sink, she tries to calm down her raising heart beat.

She promises herself that she won’t open the envelop. She even goes as far as hiding in a drawer. To prevent herself from even thinking about it. Whatever it was that was in the envelop never happened. She convinces herself, somewhere in her mind she knows that whatever lies in that yellow envelop could destroy her fully.
