The morning after

Carissa wakes up, feeling dazed she doesn’t remember much of what happened last night. She gets up feeling the fabric on her skin unfamiliar and uncomfortable. Carissa propels her body upwards. Opening her eyes as she looks around, Taking note about the environment, she is in was She looks to her side and notices that a pile of clothes in the corner. With more inspection she looks at the room. The room has a lot of space and everything I themed in white. She thinks it’s strange how a room could be entirely covered in white, everything from the walls to the floor is completely white. Fascinated by this newfound discovery, she gets out of the bed and immediately she is hit with a wave of a headache.

She sits back down on the bed, noticing that she has a huge white T-shirt and a pair of briefs , on different from what she had gone with originally. Try as she might, she can’t seem to remember the events from yesterday. The only thing that she remembers is walking up to the bar and ordering something to drink. From then on her memory is blurred up.

Carissa needs to leave this strange place that she is in, looking for her things around. She tries to find her things. On the other side of the bed she finds her phone. Lying face down. She curses out loud as she picks it up, noticing the cracks the phone now has. he gets her bag from the night stand and puts the cracked phone in the bag.

She is startled when she hears the rattling sound of the door opening, in defense she covers her body with the blanket. Bracing to see some serial killer behind the door, she is surprised when she sees the stoic face of Mr. Rivers.

He enters the room ad looks at her ‘How did you sleep?’ he asks her with such a one that makes the girl feel afraid and intimidated. ‘I slept well’ she answers and somehow she feels her voice sounds rather strange. ‘I picked you up last night, you couldn’t even stand up straight’. He says looking straight at her, his eyes not leaving her for even a second. Making the girl to feel a little awkward and shy.

After standing by the door for a while, he clears his throat and says to her ‘There is breakfast downstairs’ then he leaves her alone. She why she didn’t say anything to her, how she found her and where she found her. She also wonders about the contract, if he’ll say anything about it to her or not

Despite the headache, Carissa decides to make her way to the bathroom. Inside she finds a toiletry bag filled with anything that you might need. She also spots a bottle of shampoo and conditioner. Entering the shower , she begins to wash her body and by the time she is finished she feels refreshed.

Putting on the clothes she had from last night , she feels a feeling that can only be described as dread. She doesn’t know how she is going to face going out there but she has to.

With her bag in hand she makes her way out of the room, careful not to make a lot of noise. She doesn’t even know where she is supposed to go or what she’ll find. Still she walks out, being met with a flight of stairs right next to her. She holds onto the railings as she hears the sound of people talking. She comes to a halt, as she hears the voice of Mr. Rivers shouting ‘What did I tell you Susan, how many times should I tell you not to mix the food. I like my food separate’. He finishes and the sound of an old lady saying ‘I’m sorry Hunter, you know I forget these things. I’m not as bright as I used to be’.

Carissa is confused and she doesn’t want to go down either but without a choice she takes heavy steps until she reaches the beginning of the stairs. Taking time to inhale deeply, she walks to the kitchen.

There she finds Mr. Rivers sitting on the table a fork and knife in his hand. He looks up at her and she immediately looks down. ‘Come sit down and eat’ he says to her. She opens her mouth to refuse the offer but decided to sit down instead. Afraid of that the man might shout at her. After all she was never that good with people shouting at her.

She hadn’t noticed that the lady’s voice that she heard was talking to her. Snapping herself out of the trance she is in, she looks up and notices that the lady is smiling down at her. ‘What do you prefer to eat, I have waffles, eggs, bacon, pancakes, muffins, toast, a salad, what would you like?’

‘Anything’s fine’ she says looking down at her empty plate. ‘For goodness sake Susan, just give the girl anything. You are too slow, by the time she starts eating the food it would have been cold’ he says without hesitation. Carissa wonders how someone is able to treat others like this and still be able to sleep at night. She always believed in being polite even when it doesn’t count.

The lady begins piling up the food on her plate, she watches in awe as she stacks huge amounts of food in front of her. Wondering how she is going to finish it all she barely ate anything on most days and this was too much for her. ‘That’s enough’ she says her voice barely audible. ‘There you go, sweetheart you have to eat to be alright’ she says to her and Carissa feels as though she knows about how she skips meals and always has to force herself to eat.

Just as she Is taking a bite out of her waffles, the man starts interrogating her about the contents of the yellow envelop.

‘Have you read the contract’ he asks .’I have’ she replies shortly.

‘What do you have to say about it’ he asks looking ah her intensely. Looking up at him she answers ‘I haven’t decided on what I am going to do’.

‘Remember the clock is ticking, if you accept my proposal. Tomorrow there will be a car waiting for you outside by your apartment. If you have decided that the answer is yes, then you’ll get in the car’ he finishes going back to eat his breakfast.
