However, what confused Xu Anyi was that there was no news at all about her and her "murder".
After several minutes of searching, Xu Anyi looked up from her screen. So, Lu Yuzhe found a way to hide the news of her murder and the entire case of her "killing her parents" from the public. . .
If that is true, then probably only a few people in the upper class close to her and her family knew about it.
So how did Si Mu know about everything?
—
After he had finished his meeting, Si Mu came down and began making dinner. Before long, the delicious smell of food woke Xu Anyi up from her unexpected nap on the couch, and she limped over, entering the kitchen.
"Why are-" Si Mu began with a frown when he saw her walk in.
"My feet doesn't really hurt anymore," Xu Anyi responded immediately, knowing why he had a frown on his face.
He sighed and walked over to her, supporting her with his arm as he led her out to the dining table, "The food will be ready in a minute. Sit here."
He then quickly returned to the kitchen and came out within a minute, and the two of them began eating.
The meal was silent, and Xu Anyi was deep in thought as she glanced at him once in a while. She did not like holding in questions or guessing, so finally, she decided to ask:
"Si Mu, you know how you said you knew about my. . . murder, and you knew I was innocent."
Si Mu looked up from his bowl, surprised at the sudden direction of the conversation, "Yes."
"How?"
He studied her, their eyes locking as both of them questioned each other in different ways. He did not know why she was suddenly asking him this, but after a few seconds of silence, he looked down at his bowl and began eating again as he said, "I've always had my eyes on you."
Xu Anyi frowned as she watched him. Although his words were slightly creepy, he said it in a way that did not seem weird at all, but instead sounded genuine and. . . sorrowful.
"My. . . ex-husband hid the news from the public," Xu Anyi explained.
"I know." He looked up, his eyes narrowing at the mention of her first and ex-husband, "But do you think he has the power to hide anything from me?"
Xu Anyi smiled, "Of course not!"
She took this opportunity to butter him up, "My husband is the most powerful man in the country! Who can hide anything from you?!"
Si Mu's expression lightened slightly as he suppressed a grin, picking up a large piece of meat with his chopsticks and placing it into Xu Anyi's bowl, "I only hope that you do not hide anything from me."
He looked into her eyes with the same genuine expression as earlier, and to Xu Anyi's surprise, she saw a smile in his eyes as they looked at each other.
Then, he lifted his bowl up again and his eyes traveled down to her bowl as he commanded, "Eat."
Xu Anyi's lips curled up slightly as well as he slowly lifted her bowl up and began eating.
—
The next morning, Xu Anyi felt that her leg did not hurt much anymore, although it was a little sore, and she could not fall back asleep, so she changed into her workout clothes and went downstairs.
She ran right into Si Mu at the staircase, and he frowned when he saw her, "You can't go out and run like that."
"It doesn't hurt anymore. . . I'll just walk."
Si Mu looked at her and knew that he could not convince her as her decision had been made already, so he sighed helplessly as he grabbed onto her arm and helped her down the stairs.
In the end, he walked with her and they walked slowly around the park for a few minutes before going back.
Si Mu had to go to work as it was Monday and when Xu Anyi came back downstairs after taking a shower, she saw that he had prepared all the meals for the day for her already even though he was gone.
She smiled as she saw the note to the side of the food on the table, reminding her to heat the food up before eating, and once again, she felt the unfamiliar warmth inside her heart.
She had thought that after experiencing such coldness in the past five years, nothing would be able to warm her heart anymore, but it seemed like he easily found a way to melt her heart and make her feel warm and cared about.
She was almost beginning to believe in love again. . .
Xu Anyi's smile faded slightly at the thought, and she quickly shook her head as she put the note back down and picked up the plate with breakfast food on it and limped into the kitchen to heat it up.
Love. . . No, she could not forget past pains just because the wound has healed.*
—
At night, Si Mu came back in time and they ate dinner together before he brought her to work.
She slowly made her way around the bar, making sure to be careful of her left leg as she carried trays of food and drinks around.
It was late into the night already, and there was only half an hour left before she could go home. She walked over to the bar and took another tray with a glass of red wine on it, looking at the paper with the table number it should be delivered to.
Table 4.
It was on the other side of the room, and she carefully walked around the large groups of people dancing or talking in the middle of the dance floor.
Finally, she reached the small circular table to the side of the room, and saw that there was only one person standing near the table with her head down, looking at something on her phone.
It was quite unusual to find someone alone here at the bar, but it was difficult to notice her as she did not draw attention to herself, and she wore a long black turtleneck with dark navy jeans.
"Excuse me, your order is here," Xu Anyi said, placing the glass down on the table.
The woman continued to look down at her phone, and she did not seem to notice that someone was talking to her.
"Excuse me, miss," Xu Anyi said again, louder this time as she gently tapped the woman on the shoulder.
The woman's head shot up and she saw the glass of wine on the table first before looking over at Xu Anyi, "Oh, thank y-"
Their eyes met and at once, both of them froze.
--- Chapter Note:
"*She could not forget past pains just because the wound has healed."
This is a direct translation from a Chinese idiom which basically means that after the wound heals, you forget the pain and make the same mistake again.
