Chapter 4 - Talking with the Ex

Friday 3:20pm

Cloud Café

Around two hours passed since Rebecca arrived at the café and she, luckily, didn't cause any more commotion. As much as they wanted to, they couldn't just kick her out, they had a 'all customers are welcomed' policy which she didn't violate and they knew better than to mix business with feelings.

The bell chimed as someone entered the café, it was August and Amelia, a ninth grader that August took a sibling liking to.

"H-hi, August." greeted Rebecca nervously as she stood up and made her way over to him. August doesn't usually stay away from the café for more than an hour, yet, it's currently been around two. For some reason this made her nervous. "Hi Becca." greeted Amelia from behind August. "Oh hi Amelia, I didn't see you there, guess you haven't grown since the last time I saw you." joked Rebecca.

"Humph." puffed Amelia angrily. "I'm going upstairs to change." said Amelia, greeting the nearby staff as she passed them. "Rebecca, what are you doing here? I thought I told you not to show up here anymore." said August, a bit annoyed. He passed her and went to take a seat at an empty table. "Cole, bring me two Crepes and a Pumpkin tea." he called as he took a seat.

Rebecca took a seat across from August but before she could start speaking Cole responded.

"Ok." August then pulled out his phone and went onto the webnovel app to read a book he saw the other day, ignoring Rebecca all together.

"Please don't ignore me, I'm sorry August, can we talk outside?" asked Rebecca, hesitantly. She really missed August and wanted them to be a couple again. "No, we can talk here." he said as he started reading mentally not taking his eyes off his phone.

Rebecca glared at the device as if it chose to purposely take August's attention. "Are you by chance reading The strongest thief?, Drowned Gods or A journey to the higher realm?" she asked, trying to make small talk. He looked up at her, how could he forget, they had the same taste in books. "I am, A journey to the higher realm hasn't been updated yet, it's just a synopsis, and I'm caught up on the others" he replied, finally looking up.

"Same, I can't believe Star just dropped that synopsis and no chapter." she whined, completely forgetting about the matter at hand, this caused August to chuckle. He loved this bad feature of Rebecca, he found her forgetfulness adorable. At the same time, Cole came forward with August's order and placed it on the table.

August offered Rebecca a Crepe which she denied. "Did you start reading The Abandoned Husband Dominates?" she asked with eagerness. He nodded before speaking. "Yeah, I started it last week but I haven't gotten too far, how about you? How far are you?"

"I'm chapter ninety-two, but I think I'm going to drop it. I don't like how it's going. I mean it's five hundred plus chapters, so it could get better, but the chapter names didn't look too promising." she ranted annoyed at the book. "Really what happened? Did he get back with Hailey or something?" August asked rhetorically, while laughing. Rebecca wasn't laughing though.

"You've got to be kidding???" he asked, shocked. "Yes, the Camden's are so tricky, and he's an idiot for agreeing after all she's done to him." she said annoyed. August couldn't help but agree and he wasn't even as far as her.

"Looks like they are getting along just fine." mumbled Emma wiping a glass. "Are you jealous? Do you have a crush on the boss?" teased Mackenzie. "Wh-what? Noooo, I mean, I just met him yesterday." denied Emma turning red. "Really? Your face says differently though?" Kenzie said feigning confusion. Emma looked at Samantha pleadingly for help.

"Mackenzie leave Emma alone, go bother Zack or something." said Samantha smirking. Mackenzie may or may not have a thing for Zack. "Whatever." she replied, rolling her eyes.

"By the way, who was the girl August entered with?" asked Emma, curious and wanting to change the subject. "Amelia Mailer, she is like a little sister to August." Sam explained, at the same time Amelia was making her way down the stairs.

Samantha ushered Amelia over after she came down the stairs and introduced them to each other. "Amelia, this is Emma, our new waiter, extra help and tennant. Emma, this is Amelia, a little sister figure to August plus the staff and she sometimes stays in one of the guest rooms."

"Hi Emma, nice to meet you. Can I call you Em?" Amelia asked, giving puppy eyes. Emma tried to fight the eyes but she lost. "Sure, you're just so adorable, how can I deny your request?"

The employees shook their heads in disappointment, they lost another one to Amelia.

After finishing their book conversation Rebecca remembered her reason for coming to the café in the first place. "August can we please get back together? I don't really understand why we left in the first place. I love you, and have never stopped, so please." she asked sincerely as tears started forming in her eyes.

"You don't know why we left? Really? You told me I was being a jealous, over controlling boyfriend and if I don't plan to change I should leave, and that's what I did. I'm sorry I don't like finding my girlfriend in compromising positions with your past male friends that suddenly started popping up after we got together. Please leave my café if you're going to cause an issue." he said, waving her off.

Everyone in the café was now looking at her with criticising gazes.

"Why are you making me look like a bad guy? I'm sorry, it's not like I intentionally went into compromising positions, nor did I ask my old classmates to keep popping." she said quietly. "I won't stop trying to win you back, I love you Nan, can't you see that?" she asked, wiping her eyes.

"I'm sorry Rebecca, I no longer feel that way. I started losing feeling every since at every coincidental nook and cranny I see someone attempting to kiss, or hugging up to you way too close. It has been happening way too often for my liking, and it seemed like it would never end. I got fed up, Becca, and when I approached you about it, you basically said to leave, so I did."

"Give me a second chance, please. I promise those situations will never happen again." she pleaded.

"How are you so sure? You couldn't stop them before, so what makes you oh, so capable of stopping them now?" he asked, taking a sip of his drink.

"I-I." she stuttered, she didn't know how to respond. It's not like she asked men to keep popping up on her. She didn't ask for any of that.

"It doesn't matter anyway. I no longer like you romantically." he said, taking the last bite of his Crepe.

"Then I'll make you fall in love with me again." she said, determined while wiping her tears. August looked at her amused and said nothing more. "Well I'm going to go home and devise a plan." Rebecca smiled before leaving.
