Chapter 5 - The Sleepover

Friday 4:50pm

Some time passed before Emma said something about the conversation she had just overheard when she brought a drink to a table just now. "Well that was interesting." mumbled Emma as she went back behind the counter to clean the last glass. "Please don't get the wrong idea." started Kenzie as she saw the dejected look on Emma's face as Rebecca left the café.

"You definitely got a chance with August. His and Rebecca broke up three months ago after he saw her and Mike, a co-worker of hers kissing. Of course, he knew she probably didn't purposely kiss him but he said their relationship was exhausting. He said he was fighting men off her left and right, when she should have clearly set a boundary for them." she explained.

"Why are you telling me this though?" asked Emma, of course she was intrigued, but it still wasn't her business. "Though I do understand what he means, it was like Emily and my ex, but I was just too stupid to be suspicious and just brush it off." she said, sighing as she looked back at her own stupidity.

"Wow, I never expected that.'' Kenzie said surprised, she couldn't believe a sweetheart like Emma got cheated on. "If we ever pass the scumbag let me know, Dae and I could gang up on him and kick his ass." said Kenzie now hyped and eager to kick ass. This caused Emma to laugh at her behaviour.

"But, I did tell you that's cause you like August right? I want to set you guys up. It's on my bucket list." she said dreamily. You could practically see the stars in her eyes. "It's just a crush, besides, don't you see that his ex wants him back?" she said dejectedly.

"That doesn't matter, I'll be on your side one hundred percent and supporting you all the way." Kenzie encouraged her. "What are you guys talking about?" asked August, suddenly appearing at the counter causing Emma to almost drop the glass.

"August! You scared me." said Emma, placing her hand over her heart while leaning on the counter. "Oh, I didn't realize you were on a first name basis with the boss Emma." teased August, causing her entire face to go red. "What? No. That- that's only ca-." "Calm down Emma, I was only teasing you." laughed August. Emma didn't find it funny though, she started pouting and sulking before going into the kitchen to get a snack.

"You don't think she's too mad do you?" asked August to Samantha and Mackenzie. Emma was still new so she probably didn't understand when he's making a joke and when he isn't yet. He didn't want to tease her too bad. Just a bit since she's still a newbie.

"Nah, but I think she has a crush on you so tone it down a bit." joked Sam. "It's understandable. I am, quite the catch aren't I? Handsome face, perfect body and owns my own business. Who wouldn't like me?" asked August, his ego won that mental argument.

"You really let your ego win that one didn't you?" asked Kenzie, shaking her head in disappointment. "Is it obvious?" asked August nervously as both his staff nodded. "Damn it, I can't help it, you guys keep feeding my ego then get mad when it vomits, come on now." argued August, in his head they were just as much to blame.

"Whatever." said Kenzie, rolling her eyes. "Anyways, did you guys tell her about our sleepover downstairs tonight?" he asked, every Friday they would have a sleepover in the café where they did different stuff depending on the mood.

"I almost forgot." said Kenzie facepalming. "What's tonight's theme?" asked Sam as she placed an order in the machine. "Horror." laughed August cynically before heading upstairs. The girls shared a look, "I don't think we can convince him otherwise this time." said Kenzie sighing. She hated horror, especially when she was watching it with the guys. They always tried to scare the shit out of her.

"Max, is Amelia back yet? She should've been back already." August said a tad worried as he came from the staircase, he hated night travels, or more specifically, travelling in the dark. He believed that at dark you should already be home or getting home.

"I took her number earlier, do you want me to call her?" Emma offered, looking out the café window, it was dark and the place was getting deserted. August nodded as he went around back, closing off for the day. They had already finished the nightly lock up routine and were now prepping for the sleepover.

Amelia had offered to buy the necessary sleepover snack as she called them but wasn't back as yet. That was an hour ago.

Emma dialed the number she received earlier and as soon as Emma was about to place the phone by her ear, the bell chimed indicating someone had just entered the café. It was Amelia. Emma hung up the call before speaking. "I was just about to call you." she smiled at the ninth grader.

"Sorry I'm back so late, I was looking for marshmallows." she apologised before going to place the snacks on the designated food table. Marshmallows were her guilty pleasure. Amelia then went upstairs to change and grab anything she might've left earlier.

"August, Amelia came, she just went upstairs," yelled Hans as he mopped the floor. They were going to be laying and eating on the floor. They needed to be sure it was in tiptop conditions.

"Ok." he yelled coming from the back, he was now done and carrying a mop. "Let me do it please? I'm really excited for the sleepover and can't stand not being productive" she begged, trying to pry the mop from him. He didn't fight her as he understood her excitement.

"Sure."

"Yesss, one point for Emma, zero point for August." she cheered aloud causing him to chuckle at her. "Don't laugh at me." she pouted, going to the empty corner of the café to start mopping. "Ok, ok I'll stop." he laughed before stretching. 'Tonight's going to be awesome.' August smirked at his thought. "Why are you smirking like that? It's creepy." commented Emma, walking past him to the mop bucket.

"Awww, look at the lovely couple flirting over there." teased Zack loud enough for them to hear.

"Shut up!" yelled a now red Emma, causing everyone to laugh, much to her displeasure.
