chapter 17. strange environment, strange people.

Sofia's POV

"Sofia, I  give orders around here. You have to follow instructions, you will clean his room, do you understand?".

Cheryl said with a straight face and I gulp and nodded.  Alice was quite pleased with the scene as she looked at me with a funny smile on her face.

This is something I just couldn't take. How do I explain my hatred for men to them? They were probably going to see me as a joke. Right there where I was standing, I already felt something bad was going to happen if I entered that room and he tried something funny. I needed to explain this to her and make her understand.

It was just my second day in the hotel and I wouldn't want to be the first person to commit murder even though I'm not sure so about it. The hotel looked and screamed dangerous, like a lot of killing has been going on here. Just the name GODA, was something on its own to write home about.

I shifted in uneasiness till my entire form was well-positioned against the desk and my right elbow resting on it. I cleared my throat before talking to her. Alice had excused herself to see a man who just walked past. I don't know who he is because I didn't care. I mean it is a big hotel and a lot of people move in and out all day.  "Cheryl", I called in a low but clear tone as she looked over her computer with her black eyeballs, piercing through my face. That made me uneasy, but I was not going to freak out. "Could you give me something else to clean? maybe a lady's room" I suggested and she gave that expression that meant I should give her a reason why she should have me do something else.

"I have this thing with men, which makes me feel murderous each time I'm close to them ".

She didn't even flinch but rather looked at me questionably. "I will suggest you go clean the room. Remember you have bills to pay and you want a life here in Florida and that would only be possible if you put yourself to work and stop giving flimsy excuses''. She said flatly, adjusting the thick-rim glasses hanging at the edge of her nostrils. I looked at her pleadingly, but her gaze was now on her laptop.

That's it. Nobody would ever listen to me, unless I sat them down and started recalling my childhood story and how I survived to this level and thought I had survived it all, not till she asked me to go clean the room of a cowboy.  I was agitated.  I grumbled as I turned my back and took long strides towards the elevator.  I pressed the bottom leading to the 25th floor and in no time, I was up there. The elevator door opened and I stepped out of it.

And the first person I saw was the cowboy man, standing opposite my door.

Wow, I stopped in my tracks for a second before energetically walking to my room.  I didn't blink at him as I took long strides to the door.  I removed the keys from my pocket and before I could press them into the door, he called out.

"Hey pretty little girl, don't you have manners to greet your elders when you see them, or did your parents not give you the home training you deserved "

"That's unlike children nowadays.  They have no respect for elders".

Ok, haven't I had enough about them talking about disrespect? I turned to the side to see who had just spoken after the man. A blond just walked in and was now standing next to him, with hands, which had artificial nails on them, which were long and painted with a dull shade of yellow.

Her boobs were firm underneath the faint blue crop top she had on. Her long and scary lashes which sheltered her bulging eyes, couldn't go by unnoticed. I could not help, but have to look down at her entire figure. She looked like someone that has suffered from HIV and AIDS for over a year and her blood got replaced with that of someone suffering from a stroke.  I know this was wrong for me to say, but I think her creator was dead drunk when he made her. If not for her plastic boobs that made her look human, I would have considered her as queen of the ape world, who came to have some good time in the human world. Alright Sofia, I know you're good at giving descriptions.  Just ignored them.

But then, he should not talk about my parents next time, if there would be the next time.

Ignoring them, I turned the knob of my door, when he spoke again. This time, he threw the keys to his room in my direction. "Heard you will be cleaning my room. I need it cleaned before I come back ". He said disdainfully.  And that queen of ape blinks her funny lashes at me.

"And make sure not to steal from me because you're going to regret it. Assure you that".

My family has no records of stealing, but rather has others stealing from us. Useless people.  "Well, let her try it, we'll dissect her body and make better use of it".

The lady blurted out with her hands now in the pockets of the ripped blue jeans that matched her faint blue crop top.

Dissect, what exactly did she mean by that? The cowboy noticed the perplexed state I was in, trying to figure out what the girl said.

"Missy, you will offer no other until you leave this hotel, do you understand?". He said warningly to the lady, who immediately realized herself and stood still.

They left without another word. I watch their figure disappear into the elevator.

I bend on my knees, hesitantly picking up the keys. I didn't enter my room anymore. I closed back the already open door and went quickly to theirs. I needed to do this as quickly as possible. Before they come back.  I was not the one to get trapped in a room with two crazy people.

If I get this done quickly, I was going to tell Cheryl about them. They don't look normal to me. They look like psychopaths.

When I was done cleaning their room or his room, I quickly locked the door and immediately found my way down the stairs. I didn't find anything suspicious about them. I know that was not right for me to go about checking on people's stuff, but I had to. They could be a threat to me or the hotel.

"I need to tell you something, Cheryl ''. I told her before I arranged myself next to her on her desk. "You have been talking too much lately.  What is it this time?".

She asked, turning to me, with her hair falling down her face, she pushed it behind her back and nodded for me to go on.

I blinked and cleared my throat before looking at her. She blinks again "go on, I'm all ears".

"It's about the guy you asked me to clean his room earlier today ". I managed to speak out, not maintaining eye contact with her.

"Yes, what about him? Did he hit on you?".

What!? I screamed internally, I so much wanted to slap her on the face, for asking me the last question.

Yes I know I'm not fun of myself, but I was not dumb to understand what she said. How could she? I was hurt by that but didn't make it obvious.

"I'm indecisive about this, but I think he is somehow fishy and an eye needs to be kept on him". I know that she was not going to pay attention to that in any way possible.  I was only trying my luck.

"I told you earlier, there are always going to be people like this in our daily lives. I don't exactly what your problem is Sofia".

Of course, you wouldn't know what my problem is unless I tell you. I sigh, knowing that she was not going to cooperate.

"Ok, no problem. I would just go back.  I need to go get my breakfast.  I'm famished".

I said, holding my stomach which was now about to make that unpleasant noise.

I haven't had a good meal in a long time. Even in the two days I have spent in this hotel, I haven't eaten anything appetizing. I wonder what they would have in their kitchen.

"Oh, that reminds me. You will be cleaning that guy's room for a week, and by the end of the week, you will have your pay. That's how we pay here. For cleaners, the least amount is 500 USD, if your work is done perfectly.  Hope you understand that''.

Of Course, I understand, because I need this money I have no choice but to obey. But the idea of cleaning his room for a week was just a crazy idea. Well, I have no other choice.  When I must have made enough money, I'll make sure to leave this place and never come back.

Strange environment and strange people.
