The Devil Beside Me

Lizz's heart stopped beating for a second, gazing at the wildfire trying to reach the heavens. Her lips parted, quivering at the sight from a distance. She didn't even flinch when a piece of metal landed near her vantage point nor did she raise her guards when the two enemies she was expecting to come stepped into her vicinity.

All her focus was on the burning car, trying to sense if there was any trace of life or remains inside. The mixed scent in the air made it impossible for her to detect if Luca got out in time or got cremated. Just the sheer thought of Luca burning inside was enough to incapacitate Lizz, disabling her from moving from her spot.

A layer of tears shone in her eyes as the fire mirrored in her pair of crimson eyes.
