In the morning sun, beaming through the holes of a dilapidated house, Maverick was making progress on the cabinet pill percentage with a smile on his face. He finally made it to seventy percent in the evening! So with that done, it was time to turn the page.
The heading was said man-eating bugs trap. The author said it was one of his favorite traps for his lairs scattered around the rift-verse. It says in the directions that he must collect a singular type of bug to chain the ritual, too. Then release them around his lair. If an intruder enters they will be swarmed by insects that eat human flesh. It was scary, yet useful for defense. But luckily there were many more options!
The second heading was boar enhancement pills. These can overcharge someone's ability for a day but will leave them weak for the next. The last option wasn't even about crafting, but information. the heading says spirits for beginners. He noticed that he hasn't seen many spirits lately at all. The only thing he remembers about spirits was the one on Jett and Aiden. Daniel's mother can see spirits as well.
He thought about what should he learn first? He didn't have all the time in the world. The money would soon run out because he had to buy takeout since he has no functioning kitchen. He could just go in order and start with the man-eating bugs. But he could already see the downsides. If his house was set ablaze a second time, it would mean an end to his trap. But was a trap actually necessary at the moment? He couldn't just kill anyone who stepped into his house without permission. Sense the world thinks he's missing; he won't be able to do that. But since he's been using his bank account recently, it wouldn't be a surprise if cops arrived at his home, which doesn't help the trap's case.
Next is the boar enhancement pill. It seemed good, but what good would it do for him? Increase his spirit power maybe? But it already seemed incredibly massive. So far he can even use it to attack. It would be good to make for someone else or sell it in the future. People will most likely flock to get their hands on this.
Last but not least, spirit knowledge. He had no idea what this was. But he was curious, so he decided to read more about it. The first subject tells Maverick that the spirit's home resides in the spirit realm. It harbors most spirits and their preferred environment. It is not safe for non-spirits because you will be assimilated into pure spirit energy. The second is the in-between realm. this is where spirits cross over into the non-spirit realm and the spirit realm. When spirits reach this realm. They can affect humans in some compacity and can even be harmful. The last is the non-spirit realm. This realm is where humans reside, but spirits who are powerful or summoned can be located here. Some people will be lucky and quickly see spirits but not everyone will. The way to see these spirits are to tether their eyes to their spiritual energy, and so on for ears.
The last part was intriguing. it would explain how he couldn't see spirits. But it didn't explain how he could see spirits on Jett and Aiden but not others. skipping the manual on how to see and hear spirits, he read the last subject. It states that spirits can communicate with shamans and may even like being around certain shamans. Shamans can make offerings to win the spirit's favor and use their power to fight or help others. This was a lot for one subject chapter, but this information seemed to maverick like a must, so he decided to get to work on seeing and hearing spirits.
The manual tells him he must coil his spirit energy inside his body and then connect that coil to the back of his eyes and ears.
He sat his book down on his charred living room table and began to practice. Starting with coiling he tried moving some extra spirit energy inside to make it easier for himself and began to coil. His first one turned out to be a knot. He let it disperse, then tried again. The second one was half coiled half a chaotic tangled mess. Now for the third time. He made a coil but it was only one. It will work only on one eye or ear. Maverick thought that was good enough because it was time to try to find ingredients for the boar enhancement pill.
The pill needs electro-boar blood, Flame-boar meat, and frost-boar tongue. These are all materials that need to be hunted by ability users. Maverick had no offensive abilities so how could he kill a beast? Nor did he have the money for it whatsoever. The only option he has is to try to get the cabinet pill to more people.
late at night in the slums maverick had little bags with Index cards on them with email contact information that he would give out to people at their doorstep. He has been doing this all day so far. Some people were desperate. But others weren't having it. He was greeted with a scowl and cursed at every door. this was his last bag and last door. It was an old abandoned building, but he learned that in the slums, this was a viable house.
Three loud knocks against the door, followed by a voice saying "who is it" with a rough grunt. opening a door was a teen who had a skull on his T-shirt and a scowl on his face.
Maverick smiled " Hello I'm giving out new medicine free of charge for the first time! You will have to pay for more but it's cheap as dirt."
His scowl deepened."Some dumb poor bastard decided to sell bs on our turf."With that said the man froze Maverick's arm with his hand and sent another blow to his chest. Maverick breath was stopped from the blow and he quickly fell on his bottom.
"Your gonna have to see the boss. Gonna be fun watching what he gonna do to yo-" A fist came out of nowhere and crashed on the man's jaw, knocking him clean out. Mavericked looked to his right and see that it was "Daniel?"
"You have to go. Those guys know your here and they not gonna stop after this."
"Wait a second who are they?"
Daniel grabbed Maverick's hand and pulled him up "They are viper's gang. They know someone has been trying to sell on their turf. So they plan on using him as an example. You don't wanna be that guy."
"Well, I wish you warned me!"
"Sorry. I didn't trust you at first." Daniel tilted his head to the ground. "But then the pills did something for my mother. She is finally feeling better." A tear filled his eyes right before Maverick set his hand on her shoulder.
"Hey man. If we can sell these pills outside of the slums. not only can we help more people. We could afford to buy your mom a house outside the slums." Daniel smiled with a full set of teeth.
"That's not gonna happen unless we get rid of this gang first!"
Maverick took his hand back and placed it on his chin. "Well guess I have to get around to figuring that out" Mavick faced back to Daniel. "What's your ability and level"
"middle C class martial artist. Why?"
Maverick became wide-eyed "Wow dude your so strong. How the hell did you improve to middle C in the slums?"
"That's best unsaid."
"Alright keep your secrets then but in the meantime, I have a plan. Maverick put one foot on the unconscious man and said ".We are getting a hunter's license!"
"What!?"
