Green: Doubts

"So any luck?", Zephyr asked as he shifted his crossed leg while looking at the pale guy sitting idly at the edge of the porch.

It's been 3 days since we found him almost dead at a sewer pipe off state and since then he has healed. Well, with medication and some help from our healers.

"Not much." I looked at Zephyr with concern as my gaze shifted to the human. His eyes were staring blankly at the swaying branches with his dead brown eyes. "As much as possible we should not shift unintentionally infront of him. I don't want him to freak out and re-live his trauma."

"That's how much Luna said about his emotional condition as of late." Zephyr added as he stood up and picked up a few folders I laid down on my desk. "But why gang up on this particular human? Those pests really want to put a bad name on us werewolves." He scowls as he flips the page open.

I sighed in agreement and looked at the human. His dark almost raven black hair was messy and his skin was pale from the torture he had to endure and that also led to his massive blood lost but he hanged on. And for that I have respected him. I don't know how long they kept him locked up but I'm sure his will to live was stronger.

Suddenly, my office door flung open as Canis, one of our pack's sentries, came in an such a distraught look pinned on her face. She scanned the room until she found me and immediately approached me in a haste.

"Canis." I state with concern as she acknowledges Zephyr in the room. "Has something came up?"

Her eyes showed concern as she combed her hair behind the right side of her ear before swallowing hard.

"There's someone at the boarder who wants to see you." She spoke.

I narrowed my eyes at her and I could feel Zephyr's glare at me.

"Was it Blake?" He asked and I rolled my eyes at him before looking at Canis.

"It's not him, Zephyr." Canis grinned at my scowling Beta. "You know you act like a jealous boyfriend or something..."

"Am not!" Zephyr groaned as he rolled his eyes away from Canis which made her burst into a fit of laughter. "Shut up, Canis! It's not funny!" He growls but I just smirked at his frustrated face.

"You sure do!" Canis continued to jest as Zephyr closed his eyes and turned his back on her with his arms crosses over his chest. "Oh, Zephypoo what will your mate feel if you go strangling them with your possessiveness." She started to do choking noises that made me roll my eyes at her child-like behaviour.

I looked over at Zephyr and I was surprised that he didn't retorted to Canis' jokes about him being a possessive mate. I shake my head as Canis started dancing on the room like a crazy duck. I should stop this before Zephyr blows a fuse.

"Canis, who was waiting for me at the boarder and why does it sound suspicious?" I asked clearly making Canis look at me with concern. I practically heard Zephyr sighed loudly.

"Uhm... It's a man who wants to talk to you." Canis started. "We first thought that he was a hunter with all his blades on his keeping and the shady black coat he was wearing..." Canis described the man that wished to see me. "...but he reeked of wolf. Surely he wasn't dumb to not mask his scent."

I brought my fingers to my chin and gave an approving nod. This wasn't just mere coincidence. This wolf must have connections with the human we had in our protection.

I looked at Canis and motioned her to continue.

"He might have sensed us watching him that he stopped and requested to talk to you." She described as Zephyr looked highly suspiscious about the man.

I pondered at the thought of meeting him. This might be a trap from the hunters or perhaps he's a tracker sent by those who attacked the human. Either way, all possible reasons where highly shady.

"I don't like the sound of this." Zephyr states as he looks outside the window, sliding the curtain a little to the right. "Why among all places, he decides to go here?"

"Actually, he was looking for Alpha Stephen." Canis spoke making me narrow my eyes.

"Alpha Stephen?" Zephyr repeated in a surprised tone. Looking at me with concern in his eyes. "Are you certain he asked ..."

"I'll go." I spoke as I started walking towards the door. "Where is he at, Canis?"

"You can't be serious, Aries?!" Zephyr slams his hand on the door.

I glared at him.

"He knows my father." I retorted.

"That could be any Alpha Stephen?" Zephyr responded with a glare. "This isn't safe..."

"So does sitting here and doing nothing!" I reasoned out while crossing my arms. "This could be our only lead towards him and I'm not letting this slide."

Zephyr pursed his lips and closes his eyes in dismay as he let go of the door.

"But I'm going with you!" He growls, making me shrug.

"Sure. You're my Beta after all." I looked at Canis and smiled. " Could you please keep an eye on him while we talk this stranger."

"No problem, Aries." Canis smiled as she quickly took a seat at the nearest sofa. She flopped her legs at the seat's arm and grabbed a magazine from the file on the edge while typing on her phone.

I shook my head at her actions but I was more concerned about the hunter outside our borders. It only took us a few minutes before reaching the garage and I heard one of the pack's Jeep beep. Zephyr was already on one of the jeeps and was parked right in front of the entrance with his shades already worn.

I rolled my eyes as I quickly jump into the pack's Jeep and drove off with Zephyr on the wheel while I trace the hunter's whereabouts.

I could sense the other pack members around the woods surrounding him. Watching him closely as he stood there alone.

His scent smells a little familiar that I can't seem to put my finger on. Zephyr and I exited the vehicle and looked at the hunter.

"I don't know if this is a good time but I would like to greet you a good day, Alpha." The Hunter address directly at me.

I don't know if he knew I was an Alpha by the way I carry myself but he was suspicious and so I tried to read his mind but saw nothing or rather I couldn't get in.

"No need to scan my mind Alpha." The man spoke making me narrow my eyes as he address me with respect. "I came here for help. It seems Alpha Stephen is not here."

"Who are you?" Zephyr asked as he glared down at the hunter who lowered his shades to look back at him. "And what do you want with our Alpha?"

"My apologies. I'm Quezon. Former member of your pack." Quezon answered. He lowered his hood and looked at me. "My son has been taken away from me."

His eyes softened as I looked at him. I sighed as I tried hard to be calm until I smelled something odd.

"Vampire!" I scowled and looked at him. He looked surprised as Zephyr immediately took an attack stance. In a blink my Beta was only a few inches away from the Hunter and was about to throw his fist towards him.

"How?!" Quezon spoke and immediately raised his arm to block Zephyr's punch. He seem strong for his age as I pondered but he didn't hit back Zephyr when was attacked.

I could hear other pack members in the area ready to strike back and back up their Beta. I raised my hand so they won't do anything regrettable later.

"I have a great sense of smell." I responded as I slowly walked towards him. Zephyr backed off looking pissed and alert.

"He. Just like Alpha Stephen." The hunter chuckled as he caressed his arm. "Nice punch there." He addressed Zephyr who just glared at him.

"How come you're back when you're a former pack member?" I spoke as I stopped Infront of him. My eyes drilling through his grey ones as I saw his nose scrunched.

And sudden he lunges over me as I quickly connected my fist over his abdomen making him fall to the ground with his arms around it. Zephyr immediately moved between us.

"Hahahahaha..." I heard him chuckle. "Fuck you're as strong as your father when we where your age or even stronger. I didn't even see it coming." The hunter looked at me with a different form of emotion over his eyes. Joy. Happiness.

"What the -" Zephyr scowled. "You're one crazy wolf! You don't attack our Alpha head on." I grabbed his shoulder as he was about to hit the man in front of us. Stopping him from killing this man.

The hunter slowly stood up with one hand still in his abdomen with a few trickle of blood dripping down from his lips down his chin. Yet he was smiling as looked back at me.

"I don't know why I didn't notice it till now but you're the splitting image of your old man." Quezon slapped his forehead with his free hand as he started to laugh. "Had to smell your scent to recognize you're his son."

Now it's my turn to be confused as I raised a questioning brow. Crossing my arms over my chest, I scanned him once more and tried to scan his mind but I couldn't and that made him suspicious.

"Your mind." I state making him stop laughing and look at me.

"It's off limits Alpha." Quezon answered making me raise a brow. "I'm what you call an odd ball amongst supernatural beings."

"And that's what exactly?" Zephyr inserted.

"It's a secret." He winked at Zephyr making my Beta scowl.

"Then we can not help you then." I spoke making him scowl. "With you being secretive is evident enough that you are untrustworthy. You can look for other packs that can provide help because this pack don't provide assistance to such." I started to walk back to the jeep pausing before opening the door. "Even to those previous members."

"Well then I request to speak to Alpha Stephen. He's the one I came here for." The hunter yelled back. "My son is in danger and I don't have any where else to go to!"

I gripped the handle of the door. My emotions conflicting as I decide what to do next.

"You can leave. Alpha has spoken." Zephyr shot back.

"I only answer to my Alpha!" Quezon answered back with frustration. "I have to speak to him!"

"Your Alpha is gone!" I murmured but I knew he heard. Zephyr clasped my shoulder. "My father's dead."

"I-I didn't know." Quezon swallowed hard. "I'm sorry Alpha."

I covered my eyes with my right hand as I let go of the door's handle. I can't be this emotional at this moment.

"I guess it was hard for Alpha Lance..." Quezon gave his condolences as I looked back at him confused than ever.

"Alpha Lance of the Hell Fire Pack?!" Zephyr questioned as he eyed the hunter.

"It's just being ma-" Quezon's answer was cut short when another jeep stopped out of nowhere.

"Quezon?" My mother called out as she came out with Sera assisting her down the jeep. She scanned the ground until her eyes stopped at the hunter. My mother's eyes begun to cry.

"Gale? Is that you?" The hunter asked as his eyes seem to swell again. He was about to run towards her but he stopped and looked at us. At me mostly with eyes pleading and it seems his eyes shown sorrow and pain.

"Oh by the Goddess! I thought I would never see you again!" My mother cried as she approached the hunter with Sera still by her side. "How's Valentina?"

The hunter chuckled as she took my mother's hands in his. He looked at them for a moment then looked back at her.

"She's doing fine. Feisty as ever." He grinned.

I stood there confused as Zephyr approached me from my side to slide a questioning look.

"Glad to hear. Oh, my." Mother wept as she wipes a stray tear over her right eye. "If Stephen was here. He would be happy to see you. Oh, sorry."

The hunter smiled at my mother and gave her hand a gentle squeeze.

"I know. His son told me." As he looked at me briefly before looking back at my mother.

Mother looked surprised as she forgot that we where here as well. She lets go of the hunter's hand and wiped her eyes dry before looking at me smiling.

"Sorry son. I thought I felt something familiar that I had to rush in." She lowered her eyes and looked at Quezon. "I guess you have met."

"Yes but not quite too familiar, mother." I responded making the hunter hitch a breath before returning calmly. "He was looking for help and was oddly suspicious and secretive."

The hunter scratched the back of his head as he chuckled in embarrassment as my mother smacked his arm.

"He also reaked of Vampire and won't tell that we figured out he was someone -" Zephyr continued as mother reached over and pinched Quezon's ear making him as well as us squirm in pain.

"How dare you hide your mate with them?!" Mother scolded the hunter as he squirmed in pain. "I should tell your mate that you were hiding her..."

"Gale. Gale." Quezon pleaded as mother lets go of his ear and crossed her arms. He rubbed his ear and frowned. "Please don't be like that. She'll cut my balls off and serve it for dinner if she ever found out."

"So your mate's with a vampire." Zephyr states the obvious but he wanted to be clear with the current situation.

The hunter nodded. "And that's the reason why I left the pack." He shrugged nonchalantly as mother looked at us calmly.

"He was our pack's Head Warrior before meeting Valentina. And all was history." Mother added before lowering her gaze. "Oh, why don't you come with us and talk about your son. I'm sure Aries would be happy to help."

Mother looked at me with a sad smile and pleading eyes. I gave a solemn nod as I caved in at her request at which she replied with a loving smile as she wrapped her arms around the Hunter's arms leading him to her jeep.

"Are you sure about this Aries?" Zephyr asked as we walked towards our jeep. I looked at them as they boarded their vehicle and sighed.

"I believed in mother's judgment, Zephyr." I replied and sat at the passenger seat after strapping my seatbelt over my chest. Though there are things that bugs me at some of the things he said and the way he's acting.
