6: The decision

𝑠𝑜𝑚𝑒𝑤𝒉𝑒𝑟𝑒 𝑜𝑛 𝑘𝑎𝑗𝑢𝑛 𝑖𝑠𝑙𝑎𝑛𝑑

Narissa it is time to bring your daughter to the fold. 

Zack, please Zack I told you, I begged you to leave her out of this. All I have ever wanted for my daughter is to have a normal life living it the way she wants. And you have let it happen so far, why stop now. Please do not do it. This could ruin her life. 

Narissa!! Your daughter has met with her mate and of all the packs, her mate comes from the Water-ridge pack and mated to their alpha of all people. This pack is not one we want to be entangled with. So to be safer, we bring her in now! 

She wilts and he softens his tone. 

I know how you feel as a parent but The longer we let her go about, the longer we risk being exposed. To our advantage although He knows they are mates, he has made no move to claim her in two months, this gives us a chance to get her before it's too late. He may not have claimed her yet, but, a mate bond is quite strong, what if his wolf gets too restless and goes after her? 

You remember to free you of your pack and fake your death. We lost Marcus. Do you want your daughter to go through the same pain you went through?

Stepping close to her, he holds her hands gently, I am so sorry to do this to you. But we are few and our existence must remain a secret. 

Slumping to the floor, Narissa cries out. Zack has an awkward look on his face as he signals a woman over.

I did everything right, I tried hard. How could all my hard work come to naught? Do you have any idea how hard I tried?

Hugging Bethany tightly, I release the pent up emotions building in me. Crying so hard. 

Bethany, I already told her not to see him and she doesn't even like him anymore. 

They are not just fated mates, they are adults too, you cannot forbid your adult daughter from seeing someone.

Oh dear, Narissa... This makes it even worse. The only reason he hasn't claimed her yet is that he thinks you are human and he is just giving you face to smooth relations further down the line. Nowadays I barely sleep. My mind keeps going back to that incident. 

What if I had trusted Dante? What if I had trusted him to protect me? 

I took that decision from him.

He was already badly injured losing the fight to protect his position as Alpha. It is all my fault, I was careless and I got discovered by the pack, I should have known they will fear the unknown. Dante's brother Drako had been eyeing the Alpha position for years and he played on that fear. He waited till someone challenged Dante and lost before challenging him, he used to his advantage the fact that Dante was already injured by a previous challenger, to defeat him. 

Even then Dante tried to protect us. He took us to a cave where he stayed to heal from his injuries. But I was bat shit scared. Drako threatened to kill Dante and make me watch, then proceed to tear Zenith out of my belly. I didn't know what else to do. 

In my time of great distress, I unknowingly connected to you people and you came to help me. 

Dante... He.. he.. when he couldn't feel the bond and thought I was dead... He killed himself. 

I have never forgiven myself for his death. Many a time I thought to join him but I had to stay alive for Zenith. She is my only light in this dark world, I care for nothing else except her. If anything happens to her Bethany, I will die. I cannot bear the thought of losing her too. 

Narissa there is something I must tell you.

I look at her. What? I say in a  voice.

Before we embarked on a mission to help you, Marcus by the virtue of his gift knew who your daughter's mate would be. Before now only I and Zack knew. And we did our best to steer her off his direction for 10 years since she turned 16. Unfortunately, this time around her watcher failed... 

I nod my head and cry even harder.

After a long time, I finally feel tired and sleepy. I vaguely remember someone carrying me and placing me in a bed.
