The Past (6) An Unfortunate Kiss

As Delilah leaned further to warn the blondie that saying something as such could harm him, she wasn't expecting him to tilt his head to the side she was facing, and slowly, and unfortunately their lips ended up slightly touching.

Delilah's hazel eyes grew wide before a slight gasp followed her sudden gesture. She almost pushed the blondie away when she realised what just happened, but knowing that it was a mistake and he was blind made her not overreact. She tried calming herself down and avoiding catching his gaze but it was not working. What she wanted to do at that moment was to run away but she did not even want to again. She found the boy fascinating at first but...

As if sensing her quietness the blondie, who was trying to decipher where the aura could be coming from bent his head slightly and met Delilah's eyes. "Is there anything wrong?"

"Uhhh nothing." Delilah felt confused. She was in between running away from him or telling him sorry first for what just happened as she knew it was improper but this blondie that was standing in front of her was making it harder, he pretended as if nothing even happened. Though he was blind wasn't he able to feel their lips touch? "I was about asking if all women with scarfs could be successful alleged to be mermaids."

"You weren't about asking," the blondie corrected and Delilah was about to protest but he was quick to back up his statement, "you already did. It isn't a sin though but well why do you have to cover your scalp when you have nothing hiding? Mermaids are creatures of the sea and they tend to have unusual qualities different from humans which they hide when they wear on their guise to the land."

Delilah continued to look at the blondie as he spoke but she felt slightly uncomfortable with the fact that what he was saying was a bit concerning to her. She saw the blondie grab her hand and their body both collided and immediately, she saw herself somewhere different from where she was. The blondie did all that effortlessly to avoid the upcoming vehicle she was unable to see or hear. She was beyond astounded. Honestly, this boy could usually see.

"You were too involved in the conversation that you didn't see that coming." The blondie stopped her from thinking and he held tightly to his stick, he waved his stick forward and it hit a bench Delilah had been previously sitting on in the vacant shop before he sat down and told her to take a seat, "sit here, I do not have anywhere to go yet and so as you right?"

"Of course, not. I am supposed to be at my mummy's shop right now to help her with some sewing," Delish responded as she sat down quietly, obliviously objecting to what she had just said. "I see you are quite familiar with this environment that you can tell where and where not to sit?"

"Kind of, I have been blind almost my life now and I seem to have gotten used to it."

Softly swallowing the saliva she had been keeping in her cheek as she bit her tongue, she quickly adjusted so that something similar to what happened never repeat itself. She licked her lips again and faced the blondie, "does that mean this isn't how you were born?"

"Positive. Only a fraction of blind people is born with blindness. Most people lost their sight due to one accident or the other."

"Does this also mean you had an accident too?"

"No." The blondie shifted uncomfortably and changed the walking stick to his left hand.

"It's okay if you do not want to talk about it."

"Why shouldn't I talk about it? Blind people have no secrets because, well, a blind man gets to nowhere in the world."

Hearing this, Delilah's face turned to his and she breathed hard a little. She knew this wasn't his words, it was one of those foolish bullies who had almost beat him up. "But you shouldn't let those words get to you."

The boy turned to Delilah and she was shocked to see him crying but before she could register the image, the blondie had already wiped up his tears. "Do I look like they got to me?"

"Of course not," Delilah replied sarcastically but a little pitiful. She adjusted herself so that she was much closer to him and then after a while of thinking about what she was going to do, she lifted a number of her fingers to wipe away his tears, "My mother does say, only the upcoming successful ones do face real challenges. Why don't you let that go off your mind and focus on something more interesting and then when they come unleash your anger at them and make sure you beat them to poops." She paused, a bit already squeezing his hand, "you could have used your stick, it could have been more than helpful."

"I know," he replied with a tough smile, "thank you for saving me but I guess I have paid you back."

"When?" Delilah scrunched her face, trying to remember when. Wasn't it when he saved her from getting hit? "Ah...I almost forgot you had been expecting a thank you speech right?"

"Of course. If I hadn't called out the cops earlier, you could have gotten your cheeks swollen as mine," the boy replied which made Delilah realise what he was talking about. The blondie had previously faked a shout that the cops were approaching which led the bullies to take to their heels,

"Well, you saved both of us asses," she interjected and let out a burst of rough laughter. "I wish you could see how that one named Chris ran. He doesn't know how ugly he is and he has no attitude, I wonder how he will earn himself a good future."

"Do you mean being attractive could earn one a good future?"

"I have been told that by someone." She didn't argue.

"Then does that mean you are attractive?" He asked and Delilah blinked her eyes many times before clearing her throat,

"I do not know."

"How unfortunate of me, I wish I had eyes for this reason."
