The past (10) Eyes Of The Demons

Delilah looked at the blind boy suspiciously, though she couldn't remember his name and was finding it hard to believe he was a cousin to a man she knew very well, but she still stood still. "What do you mean by that?" She asked, bewildered. "You talk like you are older than your age. Why can't you pretend you don't know some things and halt telling me those things? You make everything so tangled that is even hard to believe you."

The boy smiled a little. When he did, Delilah looked at him curiously, trying to find her way so that she could look into his eyes and make sure she had not been hallucinating. She shook her head realising what she was trying to do as she came nearer. She wanted to make sure he didn't know that she was coming nearer so that she could confirm what she had just seen. Those images she had just seen couldn't be real.

When he stopped smiling, his eyes were wide. She crouched to him and in a split second, she was already seeing that same image of herself and someone very close to her. Seeing this, tears rolled over her face and she kept crying softly, trying to look more if she was actually going to see another image after the one she was seeing, but the image remained the same, it was eye-blinding and heart-wrenching that she almost wanted to fall back just like she had previously but she felt someone's hand steady hers.

She looked more than terrified, as the eyes she was staring at appeared deeper than she had seen when the blind boy tried to steady her, she whispered, "Let me go!" She continued to whisper while fluttering her eyes close, trying not to see that image anymore but they were registered in her head now and it was hard backing out of seeing it.

The blind boy slid his hand from her shoulder to her palm, so that he could hold her without forcing her to be so close to him, "What you saw is real."

Her eyes jotted open and she immediately took her hands away from his, "What I saw?"

"Yes. Anything you see while with me is misfortunes that are destined to happen. Seeing this just prepares you for what the future might bring to you," he answered her and sat down back.

Now, the sun was rising higher and becoming harsher, the rays were now pointing from the floor, the exact place she stood. She could feel the scorching sun but she still stood, blocking the rays from getting to someone in particular.

Ezekiel looked at her pathetically before speaking, "I don't know what you saw but don't stay in the way, I need the vitamin, it's no need to deprive me of it."

"I don't mind. Not like I am staying here any longer," she said as she rubbed the tears off her face and turned around so that she could go.

He felt that she was about to go and took up his stick to immediately walk to her. "Well, I'm used to it."

The girl turned around trying to understand what he was talking about. "Used to keeping people from walking out of you?"

"No. I'm used to people leaving after seeing crazy things while staring deeply at me." He held tightly onto his stick as if scared that he might lose balance, "The very first friend I made, ran away after seeing that her father's house was burning. I had no idea about it that time until I was told that once someone looks at these blind eyes of mine, he or she would see what the future holds for him or her, but it only shows the misfortunes." He sighed and looked at her face, even though he couldn't see anything, "the second friend I made hated me and reported me to almost everyone. Everyone labeled me as a bad kid. A possessed kid to be exact.

For some time, I believed that I was possessed. Some even nicknamed me Eyes Of The Demons. I believed that those images the few people I knew saw in me weren't what was supposed to happen, but encountering me made those things happen. I believed that I was the cause of those misfortunes that were going to happen to them. I still believe I am the cause of those. But you are the only one I have met who hasn't shouted at me or scream about it to me. You are the only one who saw it and wants to walk away quietly even though you are in tears and are frustrated." He completed his words and sighed, when he was about to continue, Delilah glared at him,

"Don't think I am the only one because if you continue saying the same thing, I might scream and beat you up, okay?" She mocked, trying to cheer him up a little. "but why are you being friendly to me? You said it previously that I am your enemy, even though I don't know why."

"Wait..." Ezekiel brought out a phone, dialed a number, and spoke into it, "Uncle Landon?"

"I just want to let you know that Mrs. Kenneth's daughter is with me, I know you are there so, please can you help me give her the phone," he said before facing Delilah, "Tell her you are safe and you are coming home very soon."

Delilah blinked her eyes before collecting the phone, "Mum?" She almost teared up.

"I...I am fine. Are you okay?"

"I'm with Mr. Landon's nephew and I will be coming home right now, please don't be worried."

When she was done with the conversation, she handed it back to Ezekiel. Ezekiel then hung the phone.

"Why did you do that?" Delilah asked, confused.

"Because I don't want her to be worried about you. Just follow me, I want to show you something."

She looked curious but still, she didn't want to go. "You and Mr. Landon do not seem like relatives. Both of you have no similarities at all."

Ezekiel frowned, "Even you and your mum. Your mother is much calmer than you."

Hearing this Delilah glared at him again and walked away.

He smiled a little as he felt that she walked away but then his mind drifted to when their lips touched, his eyebrows slowly twitched. Why was he perceiving a strange aura from her? He kept thinking but he slowly came back to his senses. He asked himself, "she doesn't know why we are enemies? What else did she see?"
