The Past (11) I Have You

When he noticed that her aura had become fainter, he squeezed his eyebrows and traced her scent while calling for her. "Here you are," he said when he had caught her movement.

Delilah rolled her eyes, "It's hard to believe that you are blind. What is wrong? Why do you keep following me?"

Everywhere remained silent as if her question had turned everywhere dumb. Sensing this, Delilah turned around to see that there was nothing wrong nor was she being stared at, she then turned towards Ezekiel, "What else do you want from me after helping you? Do you want me to take you to where you live? Why? Of course not, you came here yourself, you should know the way back there. Or..." She looked at him suspiciously, her palm grazing softly with her chin while one of her arms remained folded, "Or do you think I would believe that you are actually Mr. Landon's nephew? Even though you were, do you think I trust him and thereby will trust you? What if you are a kidnapper pretending to be blin-"

"If I were I would have done that long ago!" Ezekiel cut her short. Though he wasn't annoyed, his eyes darkened as if he were which sent some chills down Delilah's spine. "I just like being with you."

"Being with me? Why would you like to be with me? We are still strangers, aren't we?"

For the first time, Ezekiel felt uncomfortable when he was the one who enjoyed making others uncomfortable. Weren't they friends already? She had told him that they could become friends. He took his lips in and sighed. All he just wanted to do was to take this girl to where he had been. And for her to tell him what was in that particular place that he couldn't see. Even at night, which was the time his vision was very clear, still, he could not see what was in that eerie place but he could feel thousands of things.

All he wanted to do was to know how and what that place was meant for. That was his reason for wanting to persuade her so that she could follow him. He wanted to know what was in that dark place and he thought that he had found the only solution.

Though he was concerned about why he could perceive a strange scent on the girl, it was less great than the urge to know what that particular place he had gone to was all about. "As I had said, I want to show you something, please would you follow me?" He asked her.

Delilah looked sceptical as she stared at him, "Why? You sound like you are planning to lure me."

"I am blind and you are not, it is an edge for you, even if kidnappers appear from nowhere. I know you like my uncle, why can't you just trust me? I have been longing for this opportunity and seeing it, it is definitely hard to let it go. What if this would be the only way to gain my sight back?"

Hearing this, Delilah faced him again, "What do you mean?"

"I mean, going there with me might make me gain my sight."

"How?"

"I had been looking for the particular place that took my sight. It was the same place I told you about sucking blood, I feel like it is high time I gained back my sight...it's devastating to be seen as a hopeless soul." He tried to look as convincing and pitiful as ever so that she could reconsider but unfortunately, the girl was not as easy as he imagined,

"For you to gain back your sight means you are going to give something back," she reasoned. "Then are you going to use me?" She thought for a split second, "You want me to die while you regain your sight, or perhaps, you want to take away my sight so that you gain yours and I become blind as you?" Hearing her thoughts, Ezekiel wanted to burst out into a great peal of laughter, he had never seen anyone with a wild imagination as hers,

"How is that even going to happen? Why can't you think logically?"

Delilah was slightly annoyed at that question, she turned around to stop herself from doing the unthinkable only for her to see a little girl putting some bottles in a crate, seeing that she closed her eyes to stop her from looking at the bottles further. If she was bad or uncultured she knew what exactly she would have done at that moment. For a split moment, she regretted that she wasn't as uncultured as those people who beat him up a while ago.

"Think logically you say?" She asked him, swaying off little sweats that were starting to build on her forehead. "I thought you said some mermaids come to the world and pretend to be humans? What else do you think I won't believe if I believe that? And also, is becoming blind when you sucked your blood and having that colour of eyes logical?" she said making emphasis on the 'sucked'. " When you said you were going to go to a particular place just to regain your sight? Is it more logical huh?"

Ezekiel blinked about three times before breathing hard again, he had not known that the girl he had been talking to hated the word 'logical.' Else, how could she have counted so many words against his?

"I'm so sorry if I prickled your nerve," he joked but wanted to maintain his seriousness.

"You prickled what? Is that the right word to say?"

"I mean...I'm so sorry I got on your nerves, but please, this means a lot to me. If you think I am going to do something bad to you, take this," he handed to her his walking stick while she slowly took it from him, getting more confused,

"Why? How would you be able to know where you are going to?"

"I have you," he said smoothly and all Delilah could do was stare at him, disjointed. "I have already gotten used to that place, so I know the way but still, I would still need my stick so I wouldn't tremble, that is how I have you."

Delilah sighed, not agreeing, "and how does it justify the fact that you won't harm me?"

"As I said, you now have the stick and when you think I want to misbehave, you can do some discipline, I promise." Hearing this, Delilah's eyes widened, "Really?"

"Yes, but you just have to trust me till the end. When we get there, you might want to back out but all I need from you is to tell me what you see. Just what you see, okay?"

She nodded, holding the stick as she owned it, "Okay. Have it in mind that I am doing this for Uncle Landon's nephew and not for a blind boy I don't even know."

Ezekiel nodded a bit, "Visually impaired is the right thing to say." He smiled a bit and then walked slowly. All he just needed to do was to get to that place and understand what that place needs so he could get his sight back.
