The Deathmatch

The night was peaceful as I cultivated, the sound of energy swirling around me was all I could feel my heart syncing with the rhythm of the energy. A golden ray of light Gently bathed me in its radiance. Then a loud explosion and my realm progressed. A loud knocking snapped me back to reality. I stood up and opened the door. There stood several students with jaws gaping.

"You just broke through? Can you try to do that outside next time or maybe somewhere else?" A jealous-looking student complained to me.

"Your high right now, right? You're asking me to change how I cultivate to make things simpler for you? No! now get bent." I said slamming the door in the group's face.

I heard a lot of grumbling and then a loud voice.

"Do you not care whom you offend? Then how about I teach you a lesson!" The voice howled.

I smiled as I opened the door again. The young man who had dared utter those words to me. I glared at him as he stood up tall and puffed out his chest.

"Do you dare take a bet on your life in the arena against me boy?!" He confidently asked.

"Yes, sure tomorrow before class. Make sure your affairs are in order." I replied before slamming the door in the idiot's face.

I felt annoyed, but I decided to just relax for the rest of the night. Tomorrow I had the first pill furnace class. I decided to try and read up on the subject. I poured over books until I got tired. My mind trying to grasp the concept of making cultivation pills in a big brass cauldron. I sighed and laid down. I had a busy day tomorrow. Sleep came easy however waking up did not. My alarm went off snapping me from a pleasant dream. My eyes groaned open as I swung my legs to the floor. The cold hardwood sent a shock through my body, forcing my eyes to shoot open. I sighed, stood, and stretched as I walked to the bathroom to shower. Afterward, I dressed in some loose sweats and a baggy T-shirt. I slipped on my headphones and went for a quick jog before going to the arena. The air had a chill about it and the early morning sky was still filled with faint stars. A slight cold wind followed my back as I jogged to the arena. A few students were shambling home from night classes. Several groaned about the tough conditions of class. I smiled, tough can be survived as long as you have the heart to do so. As I arrived at the arena, I could see students packing into the stands. I removed my headphones to hear a roar of conversation. Students were extremely excited to see a death match between a new student and the student council treasurer. In the middle of the dirt circle stood the young man who had taken insult last night.

"I'm shocked you showed up! I figured you would cower once you found out who I was." He started rambling off in his cocky better-than-thou attitude.

"Let me stop you there bud, I never cared who you were and why should I. You seem like you are miserably cocky due to whoever's backing you. Once again, I don't care. Do not expect that when things go differently." I said with boredom.

"I Shen, have never been insulted in such a manner. I will kill you today!" His eyes flashed red as he glared me down.

I walked into the center and took a stance. My eyes locked on my opponent. His breathing was slow and steady as we circled each other, studying how each other moved. He reacted first thrusting forward a fist and I met in return. our fists smashing into each other with reckoning force. Shockwaves emit from the force of contact. Shen looked shocked as we matched blows for blows. I easily kept up with him without breaking a sweat. His eyes began to show some panic as I started to hit him hard. His fist began bleeding after exchanging blows a few more times. Each time I hit him I used more and more force. His wounds started to show. Blood slowly dripped from his head and blackened his eyes as he tried desperately to defend his head. Completely abandoning attacking at any capacity. His forearms were bruised and bloody. He fell to one knee after another series of blows. He looked up at me and began to try to be. I put a finger up to my lips to silence him.

"You wanted this. Remember that." I said as I kicked his head from his shoulders.

The crowd fell silent as his body fell to the ground. I turned and walked away. People began whispering saying how ruthless I was. I put my headphones back and made my way to class. I could feel a presence trailing me. I ignored it as long as I could before I spun around to see a tall black-haired beauty following me. I removed my headphones and looked at her. Her eyes narrowed then she spoke.

"What was the issue between you guys that he had to die?" She asked coldly.

"he said I offended him because I broke through. He came to my room demanding I move where I cultivate. I laughed him off which made him upset. He then challenged me to this farce. It's his fault he's gone." I replied turning back around. I began walking away before icy fingers dug into my shoulder.

"For a beautiful woman, you sure act rash," I said removing her hand.

She glared at me with a red face before turning away.

"Ooooh, you pissed her off." A familiar voice cooed at me.

I sighed.

"Hello, Alicia how can I help you today," I asked enthusiastically.

"Oh, you're no fun. I have the same class as you. Pills and fighting are what my family is known for." Alicia smiled.

"Even if I say go away, you're going to follow me, aren't you?" I asked grudgingly.

"Yup. You seem to have a problem with the ladies Jason why is that?" She asked as we walked.

"Cultivation gave me a future when I had nothing left. Finding love isn't my priority at the moment." I replied.

She stared at me weirdly for a second and then ran ahead.

"Hurry up we are almost late!" She hollered back to me.
