“How did you know I was staying at Emily’s house?” I ask after we’ve walked in silence for a few minutes.
“I was out running some errands and saw you and your mom driving up to that house. You got out with what looked like an overnight bag so I just sort of assumed,” Max offers the explanation and I accept it. “Was it bad that I showed up tonight?”
“No, it’s okay. I know that I have been avoiding you and that’s really not fair to you. Although, how much can I really avoid you when you’re in most of my classes?” I laugh a little and feel myself starting to relax. There is still so much I don’t know about Max but for some reason, I do not feel a heightened sense of paranoia around him.
I touch the locket on my neck and I can feel the energy radiating through it. It is still working so at this moment, there must not be anything that threatens me.
