Erin wanted to give her daughter, Charlie, a normal childhood, but Charlie isn't a normal child. Charlie and her mother are both witches. After escaping government captors, Erin gave birth on the run and spent many years moving Charlie from town to town to avoid being locked up and experimented on. When Charlie started high school, Erin made a promise they wouldn't move again until she had graduated. Now, they've made it to senior year without issue but when a new kid shows up at school, Charlie notices something strange about him. In order to uncover the truth, she begins acting out of character and going behind her mother's back to handle everything on her own. Charlie's reckless behavior opens the door for trouble to quickly find them once again. With Erin as her teacher, Charlie still has a lot to learn before she is ready to face the unknown evils that have been after them for all these years.

      “Emily, have you seen Max today?” I ask when I sit down at our usual table for lunch. She has just taken a huge bite of her mac and cheese so she shakes her head ‘no’. When she swallows her food then she speaks.


	“Aren’t you in almost every class with him? Wouldn’t you have seen him before I did?” She asks, giving me a look and I narrow my eyes at her.


	“Super helpful, Emily,” I roll my eyes and then scan the cafeteria. I don’t see him anywhere and he hasn’t been in any of my classes. I’m not sure what this means, maybe he left because Grandmother pulled him out of school, out of the town. Hopefully, he isn’t in trouble for anything. I start to worry about him, I know I shouldn’t but I still care about him, a lot more than I care to admit. 


	“I haven’t seen him since after school yesterday,” Elizabeth says and I look over at her.
