Mom does not let me drive home. She still looks tired but the shower and the food we picked up, helped both of us gain some energy back. I offered to drive again when we stopped for food but she said she had it covered so all I did was sit in the passenger seat and think about all the craziness that had been going on lately.
“Are we moving again?” I ask, trying to remain calm. Mom looks over at me and her face looks sad and guilty.
“I don’t know, Charlie,” Mom sighs, and then we pull into the driveway. “I’m not sure if it’s safe to stay here anymore. I should have known they were keeping an eye on my hometown but I took the risk of bringing you there and we can’t be sure they haven’t followed us back.”
“Mom, you took every precaution getting us back here. You even made us invisible for part of the drive!” I try to reason with her but she just shakes her head sadly.
“Technically, I can’t make us invisible,” Mom corrects me and I roll my eyes.
