Chapter 47

“You have a school here? For who? Your soldiers?” I ask to clarify, even though I see four little girls, not soldiers. Grandmother shakes her head, no.

“Yes, it is a school. But not for my soldiers, the school is for other young witches, just like you.” Grandmother watches me to see my reaction. I am shocked. I stumble back into the hallway and one of the little girls turns to face me. She looks tired and dirty, she looks at me and it looks like she needs help. My heart aches for her. I can picture my mom in the same situation. She would have been all alone, sitting there in desperate need of saving.

“There are other witches?” That is the first thing I address. I am shocked, I wonder if they showed my Mom that we aren’t the only witches in the world. “We’re not the only ones…” I say softly and stare at the room of girls. Slowly they all turn to face me.

“Who are you?” One of them asks, looking up at me.
