Chapter 24: The Punishment

COHEN

With the back of my hand, I wiped blood from my eyes and looked around.

The battle was dying down, and the ground was littered with vampires. Some were mine, but I was pleased to see that most were feral vampires.

I glanced behind me and spotted Ellie bent over one of my warriors with her hands pressed to a wound over his heart while Dr. Val gathered supplies.

She was safe.

My relief was short-lived though as the fury took hold.

I’d never been so angry in all my life. I was known for being aloof and distant, but Ellie made me anything but.

I looked around the battlefield in time to see Lance with what appeared to be the last two feral vampires.

They charged him together, but he leapt straight at one, kicking him to the ground, then spun back to the other. He staked that one then the one of the ground in easy, fluid movements. I never had to worry about Lance in a fight.

My rage calmed a hair but then I looked back at Ellie, and it came rushing right back.
