Chapter 41: Something's Wrong

Kate banged on the thick metal door to the side of the front of the building as my eyes scanned the area.

Every now and then, I thought I saw someone dart in and out of the shadows, but they moved too fast for my eyes to track. Vampires?

I didn't have a good feeling about this.

"Kate-"

I was cut off as the door swung open and a slender woman was revealed. She was attractive, as all vampires were, but the ominous air around her was heavier than I was used to with the vampires from the clan.

Her dark eyes scanned Kate before moving onto me. I gulped audibly, but she just nodded and stepped aside so we could pass.

Kate led the way inside and I wiped my sweaty palms on the skirt of my dress.
