Chapter-72: Fighting the Spider Demon Family..

While Rengoku was chasing after the Son of the Spider family, Ren flew towards a path leading to the top of the mountain, his 12 wings flapping as he soared freely throughout the sky.

Wind pushed against his face, the moonlight illuminating him brightly like a spotlight..

Soon, Ren came across an open field leading to a continuing path up. In the middle of that field was a white haired woman with red markings on her face, the moonlit glow illuminated her also, making them seem like performers on stage for a play..

The white-haired woman was in a Seiza sitting position, her legs tucked under her kimono and her body straight like she was awaiting him.

"So you have finally arrived..." The white-haired woman started speaking..

"Seems like you're expecting me? I guess Muzan also knows about me now.." Ren replied casually while floating down to ground level but not to the point that his feet were touching the ground.

He hovered in the air without the need of flapping his wings as he looked towards the white-haired woman.

The eyes of the white-haired woman widened in shock when she had heard Ren talk about Muzan. She stabilized her focus again as she continued speaking..

"Yes, indeed, our Master has issued to kill you at all costs, no matter what to every demon.." She slowly stood up and looked up at Ren.

"He sees me as a threat that much?" Ren quipped back to her. "Unbeknownst" to him, small spiders with red dot like design similar to the physical traits of herself and her "family", controlled by this white-haired woman was sneaking around the grass, trying to get to Ren's back..

The small spiders jumped up to Ren's clothes and eventually reached his neck, with it's stingers connected to a seemingly invisible thread, it prepared to bite down on Ren's neck.

Until—

—Paaaak!

Ren slapped his neck with his hands infused with Light magic and squished the spider into mush.

"Wasting time huh?" Ren said as he patted his hands together. "Shall we start?" He gripped his sword tightly and pointed the blade towards the white-haired woman.

"Mrs. Spider Demon Mother?" Spider Demon Mother, or Mother for short, summoned her steel cables that she called her strings from her fingertips.

She pulled on them, a faint glimmer of moonlight reflecting off of them and revealing the strings attached to the trees surrounding them in all directions. With a tug of her index finger, strings came whipping towards Ren.

Ren took a single movement back, easily dodging the strings that came whipping at him. The deep marks on the ground just showed how sharp and strong Mother's strings were.

The strings quickly rebounded. "Tch! Let's see if you can take more!" Mother started moving all of her fingers in unison, more and more strings came slashing towards Ren.

Like streaks of light, the thin metal strings sparked against Ren's blade as he parried them smoothly like directing water to another source.

Ren's technique and skill was truly shown through his feats, his great control and mastery over his blade made him as slick as a wraith, no blows could hit him.

With one spin of his body, he got out of the cage of strings trying to entangle him. "Huutt!" Ren groaned as he rushed towards Mother.

In 5 steps he had already arrived in front of her, Ren's eyes grew dim, preparing himself to use a technique due to the amount of strings that were heading towards him.

'He's trying to attack from below! I got him!' Mother gleefully said in her mind, already manipulating her strings to attack him.

"Classic trick.." Ren muttered under his breath as he unleashed his technique.

Mother's eyes was focused solely on Ren's blade, not knowing that it was a phantom and that he had already arrived above and behind her.

As the strings made in contact with Ren's afterimage, she was shocked that her expected outcome did not occur, of piercing Ren did not occur. Instead, she had felt the cold touch of a blade on the back of her neck —

—Like Death's scythe swinging down on her to take her life..

"Goodbye and sorry, I hope that you'll be reincarnated in a happier life next time.." Ren's whisper came as her head was neatly cut..

'PAINPAINPAINPAINPAINPai - what?' Mother thought that she will feel pain, so much pain because she was beheaded, but what she didn't know was that Ren in the courtesy of what happened originally in the plot, chose to kill her in the most painless death ever..

The Spider Demon Mother was also just an innocent woman robbed of her happiness by demons, she didn't deserve pain. In the original backstory, she was abused and made to be the Mother figure of the Spider Demon family despite being the youngest, and was also punished for holding on to her humanity.. just for the sake of denying to be a demon, she was always brutalized by her "Husband" and her "youngest son", Rui.

'Wait..I can escape now! I'm free!' Mother's thoughts still kept running even though her head was severed. The phenomenon of your life flashing before your death is true and it feels like the world has stopped time.

She remembered the abuse she received like it was captured on a camera, her miserable life as a demon and also..a dear person.. —

—A dear person that cherished her and loved her, treasured her and made her feel warmth and made her heart beat..

Even though what she had remembered was glimpses of her past human life, it was enough for her, to remember her dear person was the most important thing to her..

Her head turned mid-air and saw the expression of pity in Ren's face along with the genuineness in his eyes. "Thank...you.." She uttered one last final gratitude to Ren as her body and head turned into ashes and was blown away by a breeze..

"Requiescat in pace." Ren said a last prayer for her.

"Truly worthless" A voice resounded over the path to the Spider Demon family's house. "What a truly worthless woman she is, she didn't even fulfill the duty of a mother properly!" The voice was arrogant and conceited, with a hint of disgust in it.

Ren recognized this voice, the seemingly youngest member of the Spider Demon family and the Lower Rank 5 of the Twelve Kizuki, Rui...
