CHAPTER THIRTY NINE
.
Taylor walked towards the study table and opened the bag. The moment she saw the music box, she gasped in surprise and horror. As if she was bitten by a snake.
"Master..." She whispered as she took the music box from the bag.
Damien looked over at Taylor with an impassive face. Taylor choked on her saliva. Why is her Master so apathetic? Zombies are more lively compared to him.
"Master, this music box has the same feeling as the ones made from the Realm of Mystics."
Damien just hummed and buried his head back in Adrianna's neck.
Taylor has the urge to lift the table and shout at her Master! What does he mean by his hum?
Taylor frowned. Did Master already know? He doesn't seem surprised.
"What Realm of Mystics?" Adrianna asked.
"Its another dimension." Taylor turned the music box in her hands carefully. Peering through the seams, checking the edges, smoothing the surfaces, smelling the wood.
"Another dimension? Are there many dimensions out there?"
"Guess so. I only know a few of them, though." Taylor opened the music box.
The moment the melody played, Damien's head snapped at Taylor direction. His eyes became slits as he scrutinized the music box from afar.
As the tune was playing, the ballerina in arabesque pose began to spin.
After the music ended, Damien looked at Adrianna. His eyebrows creased in contemplation.
"The music sounds instrumental to normal ears but some vampires might be able to distinguish the underlying voice muttering gibberish behind the tones and rhythm of the notes."
Damien tightened his hold on Adrianna's waist. "I think those gibberish might be the spell. What spell that is, I don't know." He then glanced at Taylor.
"I will tap with your mind and relay what the voice is muttering. Sit down or you might fall head first on the floor."
Taylor hastened to sit down with the music box on her lap.
"This will be a tad bit uncomfortable. Place the music box beside you and play it again. Then close your eyes."
Taylor nodded as she placed the music box beside her and played the music again. Then she closed her eyes.
Adrianna watched closely as Taylor turned pale and blood trickled out from the side of her mouth. Then her nose starts to drip blood.
Adrianna clenched her hands tight wishing for the music to end quickly. She never thought the melody was this long and Taylor is getting paler!
When at last the music stopped, Taylor opened her eyes and fell off from the chair. Blood gush out from her mouth in a sudden and forceful stream.
Adrianna cried out as she jumped from Damien's lap, dashed towards Taylor and knelt in front of her.
"Get water!" Adrianna barked at Damien as she rubbed Taylor's back.
Damien just raised his eyebrow.
"Someone is already coming." He said indifferently.
Before Adrianna can talk back at Damien, someone indeed came.
Luca came rushing as he saw Taylor slumped on the floor. Her face is pale while spurting out blood.
He did not notice Adrianna.
The moment Taylor stopped vomiting, he swept her up in his arms and placed her on the couch. He took his shirt off as he wiped the blood on her nose, her mouth.
Marius came running with a glass of water and a cloth in his hand. But upon seeing Luca kneeling in front of Taylor with an anxious face, he remained at the door standing. His mouth gaping.
Did he miss something?
Then he looked at the beautiful girl beside Luca and Taylor.
Who is...??
He transferred his sight to the relaxed and passive Damien.
What the...!
"Baby, come here." Damien's face is cold but his voice is as warm as summer sunshine.
Marius thinks he is sleepwalking. He must still be dreaming!
Adrianna glanced at the stupified man standing at the door. He looks like he has seen a ghost.
Then she stood and walked towards Damien.
Damien pulled her hand and sat her on his lap. His arms wrapped around her.
Adrianna glared at him.
"You were supposed to help! How can you just sit there as if nothing happened?!" Adrianna admonished him softly.
"What would you want me to do?" Damien asked lazily.
"I don't know! Heal her?!"
"I can play doctor and examine you all over. But I can't be a doctor for others."
Adrianna almost vomited blood!
"Shameless!" Adrianna voiced out between gritted teeth. "How can you be so...so uncaring? She is one of your people, isn't she?"
"I don't want others close to me. I also get sick."
Adrianna's face blackened.
"Damien!"
"Baby, your shouting hurts my ears and it goes straight to my heart. Can you tone down a little, please? I don't remember feeding you explosives." Damien whispered softly.
"I wish I can feed you explosives!"
"Okay. Okay. Feed me explosives and let's heat up together like fireworks." Damien stroked Adrianna's hair as if pacifying a child.
"Damien!"
"I'm here, baby. Calm down, will you? Taylor will be more upset with your shouting. Your about to rain down the ceiling with your thunder."
Adrianna glared at Damien.
"You better work on your humanity."
"I'm a vampire, baby. Not human." Damien teased.
Is this her retribution? In the past life, Damien can never out argue her. But in this life, Damien could wipe the floor with her!
Adrianna's face flushed red. She bit Damien's neck out of pique.
Damien's body stiffened then relaxed as he continued to stroke Adrianna's hair. His eyes full of helplessness.
Marius and Luca watched the show with ashen faces and wide eyes.
Is this still their cold blooded, demonic friend?! He is not a doppelganger or a substitute, is he?!
But before they can ask Damien, Taylor weakly called out.
"Master, I know the spell."
