Chapter 31

"Killed the rat hanhh...?" Gianna asked looking at Amelia's puckered eyebrows as she put the dirty laundry in a washer. "Yeeahh..." she replied unconsciously with her eyes frozen on something in the laptop. "Told you not to mess with innocent creatures. They are..."

"Mom please..!"

"It's not a time to lecture me."

Amelia suddenly looked at her mother visibly pissed with her remarks. "No I was jus...." she tried to say something but Amelia stopped her mid sentence.

"No mom! You don't even know what is happening out there and all you care about is that fucking rat."

She suddenly stood up and screamed maniacally. She was almost shivering with anger and frustration.

Gianna was astonished and terrified to see her daughter shout like that. That was probably the first time she had ever talked to her mother in that tone and it did not sit well with her.

"Owwo calm down honey. What happened?"

"What is pissing you off?" She asked anxiously.

"I am..." despite wanting to scream again she could only mutter in her mouth.

"I was just saying.." Gianna tried to clarify as she came closer to her.

But Amelia exhaled with anger and threw herself down on the sofa.

"Mom people are suffering. They are dying.. We all are gonna die. A terrible death is awaiting all of us. And all you have to say is that I killed an innocent rat."

"Do you even listen to yourself?" With stony eyes Amelia stared at her.

She lowered her tone and squeezed her forehead anxiously, while Gianna stood there visibly shocked by her daughter's reaction.

After a moment of silence Amelia realized that she had been a little harsher than she was suposed to be.

She knew that nothing could ever break her mother's heart than her daughter's hurtful demeanor. And she would never do that even if it meant hurting the whole world.

"Mom I am sorry." She finally said.

"But we have got a very short time."

"These banters about the rat thing are useless."

Gianna wondered if it really was the rat thing that made her angry. But she knew her daughter and it was not the thing that could piss her off.

"Look sweetie if you truly want to bring a change the first thing you need to do is to calm your mind." Gianna said sitting beside her.

"I know mom.. I know."

"But even that doesn't help."

"It definitely will." She reassured her.

"You have been working too much lately. And it's not impossible to reach your goal." She patted her shoulder. "I am certain that you are already there." Her smile eased Amelia's pain and anger.

"Okay.. Tell me what's troubling you besides the ongoing situation?"

Amelia looked at her knowing that she wouldn't have answers but at least it could release some of the burden from her heart.

"It's very confusing?"

She began to let her fears out.

"What is it that is confusing?" She asked again.

"The virus appears to be something normal through tests. I mean the normally existing virus but the symptoms they manifest in patients are something absolutely different." She continued with pauses.

"It seems like a deception."

"We are afraid that someone has deliberately created this disease."

"How can someone create a disease and that too deliberately?" She asked with a shocking stare.

Amelia was unable to answer her mother because it seemed difficult to make her understand.

"Look mom! I shouldn't have told you what I already did. But science has no moral limits. Sometimes people forget what is right and what is wrong."

"For them it is easy to let their morality permeate into the boundaries of evil desires." She said dejectedly.

"Even if that's true, how could a disease be made by humans to kill on such masdive level?"

"Mom if I begin telling you what could scientists in the labs do you would be shocked." She opened up.

"They believe they are the new Gods in the coming times."

"But how could you say that it is a result of someone's creation?" Gianna asked again.

"Because we believe it has bothered some people out there." She stopped immediately after saying that. She didn't want to tell her mother about the threats she had faced earlier.

"Who are bothered?"

She asked concernedly.

"Look mom I didn't want to make you worried but I ought to tell you there are people watching us." She knitted her eyebrows. Gianna had always been worried about her safety . And this made her terrified. "I mean not that it's true. But we feel so." she tried to to ease her fears.

"This may have something to do with the project we are doing."

"I told you to be careful" she managed to say with a low voice.

"I know and there is nothing to be worried about." She comforted her. But Gianna could sense that her anger and frustration was a sign that something was stressing her out.

"But there is something else that negates our assumption?"

"Ahan and what's that?"

"We believed that the virus is created but according to our demonstration of the place there was leakage caused by the pressure of tree roots on the sewage pipes. The sewage water has diffused into the water pipes. Which is making people sick with HAV and HEV."

"That's a plausible explanation for the virus and a reason for negating our fears but..." she stopped again.

"But what..??

"The symptoms are far more horrifying... Something that is compelling us to believe that a human's hand is involved."

"hmm" Gianna mumbled after a thought.

"Look sweetie!!"

"your dad used to tell me one thing."

"For every poison there is an anti dote and for every disease there is always a remedy." "If it has been created then the creators would have created the remedy too."

"Sometimes you need to look at a situation from the other angle." She continued with her philosophy.

"If you thought that A and E have been infused as a life saving mechanism for Priealto or whatever then you may shift your thinking towards the other side."

"Maybe the other unknown thing is created to fit in with A and E viruses. Sometimes you need a little manipulation to achieve a bigger effect. They may have used the existing problem to create an even greater one." She said fluently. " I mean the leakage might have been an oppurtunity..."

Amelia was astonished to hear what her mother just said. It struck like a ball of lightning.

"why couldn't I think that way ?" she hugged her mother excitedly leaving her stunned too.

"You didn't ask me" Gianna was happy to see her daughter's eyes sparkle with joy.

"You are right mom. You are right."

She typed something quickly on the laptop. They knew that there was a problem and they used that problem to create a bigger one in such a way that nobody could find or have doubts.

She immediately called Olivia. "I need a list of patients who were first identified with the disease."

"We have to know about the first patients with HAV and HEV." She directed immediately.

"My aunt said initially it was simply HAV and HEV. Some patients were cured. But afterwards it transformed into this deadly disease." Olivia revealed confusedly.

"Exactllyyy..." Amelia blurted as if waiting for the same response.
