Chapter 33

Amelia and David were sitting inside the car in front of their apartments.

"are you sure he is going to come?" Amelia asked with uncertainty.

"look he is coming towards us." David showed her the phone and the location of the number they were tracking was coming nearer them. It was few buildings away.

They fell silent for a while. David looked in the mirror intermittently to see if the person was there.

They had been tracking that number for a while and they knew he would come. Then was the time when he finally was showing up.

"Be cool, be cool, there he is." David shook Amelia who was looking down at her phone. They saw a man's pea cape appearing at the edge of the nearest building where they were waiting in their car. He tried to hide himself behind the wall. David and Amelia pretended not to see him.

"What the hell is he doing?" Amelia asked frustratingly.

"He might be given a task to keep eyes on us"

"What we do? Where we go? Everything that may be bothering them" he explained keeping one eye on the man himself.

"I guess Sir Henry is the reason which is troubling them."

"Now I am absolutely sure that this thing has political aspects."

"Someone is definitely trying to jeopardize our efforts." She shrugged her shoulders.

"Yes that's true." David agreed.

"Killing people with hatred and healing them with love require two different sort of hearts"

"I don't know what it takes to kill humanity in this gruesome manner. Such hearts would be the most horrendous ones. Devoid of humanity and blackened with hate." He shuddered with revulsion.

"True that." She said following the man's steps in the mirror. They didn't know if he had seen them or not but he suddenly stepped away.

"Look he is going back," she exclaimed trying to keep her voice lower.

David looked at her phone and then at the man who was indeed stepping away.

"Did he see us?" he asked unsurely.

"Maybe not." She said.

"He is talking on a phone"

"Maybe he got a call from someone. Let's follow him.

"Is that a good idea." She asked in a high voice as the car sped away.

"I am not sure unless we follow him to his destination."

"you have to be careful."

"Yes I am. Don't worry darling. I am not gona let you harm." He laughed as he followed the man.

"He is running"

"Go go go. Don't miss him."

"Where is he running to?"

"let us find out."

The man jumped into a car which was parked few buildings away and drove it quickly. He was all alone.

"that's great. He is not surrounded by his team." Amelia murmured.

After driving for a while they were away from the busy town and on an empty road. The man was driving faster than they imagined.

"Go faster," Amelia pushed David.

"It is a day to find what is brewing out there." He bit his lips as he forced his hands on the steering wheel.

David turned the car into the street where the man had gone, on the left side of the road. He turned again into another street. They soon realized that they were going into a labyrinth of paths they did not see before. "What place is this?" Amelia looked at the sign boards which seemed quite historic. An impoverished town they had never seen before. The people were busy in their work ignoring their presence. "They are sick and malnutritioned." Amelia said looking at their weak and mud smeared faces.

"We need to keep our sight on the man." He jolted Amelia from the trance that she sank in gazing at the people.

The man had parked his car suddenly in front of a house which apparently seemed abandoned and broken.

They maintained a little distance to avoid his eyes. Amelia got out of the car and stealthily followed him. David joined her too.

They wore their masks and went near the house.

"I think he has left the door open" Amelia whispered pushing the half opened door. She gestured David to follow her. They went silently inside. The door had opened directly into a foot of stairs. David took Amelia's hand and gently went up avoiding any noise that could catch his attention.

There was another door that led to the interior of the un-renovated house. "What should we do?" David whispered. "Should we go inside?"

"I don't know. Maybe yeah." She replied.

Just as he came closer to the door there were voices coming from inside. They put their ears on the door to listen to the voices.

"I warned you not to leave the house."

A voice of a man who seemed annoyed shouted angrily. "I know but what could I do. I needed to buy something" they heard a sobbing woman giving explanations in a desperate manner.

"I told you to ask me if you need something."

"You know it's dangerous out there.

Ben does not spare anyone." The warnings which he was giving earlier changed into imploration.

"Ben!!!" Amelia looked at David shocked and petrified. David put his finger on her lips to make her stop for a while and listen to their conversation.

"I would have taken you away from here because it took so much risks to save you. And I can't take it again to lose you." He held her closer to comfort her but she was crying unstoppably.

"I know and I want you to take me far away from this place. It is killing me any way."

"I will" the man assured her. "but let me finish the task first."

David looked at Amelia and tilted his head more towards the door to hear what task they were talking about.

"I have to find out the place where he kept my brother and sister."

"I just need to save them."

"But you don't know if they are alive or dead?" she said amid the sobs.

"I am sure they are alive and waiting for me."

Amelia stared at David with astonishment of what was unfolding in front of them.

I am just making him believe that I am doing my job.

He might have doubts because I have felt people following me too.

"why is he such a cruel man. What have we done to deserve all this." The woman cried again.

"If I knew where my siblings were I could have killed him directly."

"All I am waiting for is them."
