Christopher gently closed the door behind himself after he left the room. The smile on his face slowly turned to a stoic neutral. Like a statute that had no emotions. He turned to his side and faced the nuisance that was looking at him with eyes filled with longing. Longing that was evidently not directed towards him. Christopher scoffed in pure disgust. When his eyes met the other's eyes, the other quickly averted their eyes downwards out of fear.
"Zavis."
Christopher called out in a cold and dry voice filled with loathe. Zavis clearly knew that Christopher was extremely vexed. Christopher's anger was directed towards him. He, however did not continue to cower away towards the wall that he so wished would swallow him. He lifted his face to face the mighty threat in front of him. His alpha. He who was in control over his very existence as it stood at that moment.
"I came to check on young master Helix," Zavis cowardly said, in an attempt to avert Christophers anger.
"I highly doubt he requires your presence."
"I am just making sure he is not harmed in any way whatsoever. My lord."
"What made you think that you are in any position to worry for his well being. Zavis...you hold no position in my brothers life. It seems that you have forgotten whose beta you are, " Christopher remarked as he watched as Zavis' face turned pale. The urge to completly kill Zavis only grew stronger each passing day. But, the time hadn't come yet. Zavis was still useful to him. Although far from satisfied, Christopher was content with Zavis' screwed facial expression. It slightly brought a mild feeling of accomplishment in him. That horrendous man's obsession with his younger brother was Christophers bane of existence.
Christopher took as step towards Zavis who was slightly taller than him and looked him directly in the eye. He smirked and walked passed him. A pathetic man. That was what Zavis was in Christophers eyes.
Christopher's steps echoed in the halls of the mansion. They always did. This was how it was and had always been. With the well laid stones that created the master piece, it was still majestically standing in all their glory and strength. The mansion's long heritage that had been with the family. The Pride mansion deserved it's name. Riel, a name from the old language that meant strength.
The wooden door opened when Christopher pushed it. He made his way inside. A middle aged man looked at him and bowed to him slightly. Within a few seconds Christopher made it to his desk. He looked at the middle aged man through his circle rimmed glasses. The man looking perfect with no imperfection in sight stood there, waiting for a go ahead.
"A maid. Assign one to the boy my brother brought home. Make sure that she is strong enough to protect him. My little brother seems to have a soft spot for that ill-fated child."
"Yes, it shall be done."
"What do you want Cayce?"
The middle aged man let out a sigh.
"There was another attack. Another member of the pack has been murdered around the banks of the river. There were traces of magick around the area. They did not even cover it up."
Christopher's eye twitched slightly. He could not believe the audacity of those witches. They hadn't even tried to hide the traces of their disgusting magick. He shuddered when he remembered his slimy and moldy it felt and smelled. The witches, from what Cayce had gathered were getting more and more out of hand. They, were not only starting a fight with Christopher's pack but also drawing the attention of the humans in Elvine. There have been several weird incidents that the humans had begun picking up on that not even Christopher with all his wealth and abilities could not completely cover up with risking murdering several people.
Yet, one can not truly say that the idea of murder hadn't lingered in his mind. He was up for it. Sadly this would contradict the rules and principles of the pack that Christopher's ancestor, Silver Pride had laid out during the founding of the pack. Christopher was not so much of an ignorant fool to burry the wishes of his predecessor in the coffin of forget. Never. Not when they made the Pride family what it was.
Normally, Christopher would send Helix to investigate the matter thoroughly. But this time Helix was tide up by his new found beta and feelings of guilt. Christopher sighed when he remembered that child. He knew that the child would only become a burden to Helix. Yet knowing his soft hearted brother, he was well aware that Helix would not abandon the child. Christopher was forced to come to terms with the new setting. He could only hope that Helix would not do anything stupid.
"Send out a team to investigate. I want them to find those damned witches and what they want,"Christopher finally commanded, putting an end to the long silence that had dominated the room.
"Yes my Lord," Cayce affirmed before seeing himself out of Christopher's study. Christopher took off his glasses and placed them on top of his note book. He then reclined into his seat to get a fleeting moment of peace to pull himself together. He wondered if he could truly protect what he deemed important. When Helix's face popped up in his mind the tension in his body evaporated. It reminded him why he became strong in the first place. Why he became who he was.It was to protect his last remaining family member.
Leaning on the wall with his hand over his stomach, Zavis tried to calm the shiver that ran through his whole being. He still felt haunted by those green eyes that no one ever realized harbored great cruelty. Although the connection between an alpha and his beta is one way, meaning only the alpha could get into the beta's mind, Zavis knew what Christopher was. Or, what a monster he was. Zavis knew well that Helix could hear his heart beat. He knew that Helix heard the conversation between him and Christopher. But this only thrilled him.
The idea that Helix even listened to anything that entailed him made him ecstatic. Finally composed, Zavis relectuntly left, his mind filled with plans. Helix only saw Zavis as someone who seemed really caring as he always showed up in his time of need. Or so Zavis though as it was the image he had struggled to build for years. Its was no secret that he joined the tournament of Twos so that he could get the chance to be chosen by Helix as his beta. Funny enough he won. He emerged the best out of all the participants. Luck however was not on his side as Helix had declared that he did not wish to have a beta. As if to further spite him Christopher, who Zavis loathed, picked him as his beta. Probably hoping that he would not survive long enough as punishment for daring to covet Christophers beloved brother. But he did.
Both of them had since then had been unfortunately been glued to one another. A curse to each other. And Zavis was very close to end the curse and finally be with Helix.
